The news of the arrival of Jio GigaFiber and Airtel’s V-Fiber has shaken the hardiest of telcos in revising their existing plans and offering better services to their subscribers. State-owned telecommunication company Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd is no different. To counter the advent of Reliance Jio GigaFiber in the telco space, BSNL is revising its broadband plans and adding new to its existing portfolio.
Bharti Airtel is planning to revamp the Internet scenario in the country. In regard to this, the company wrote on their website that ”As part of its nationwide network transformation initiative – Project Leap, Airtel is also augmenting its 550,000 Kms of domestic & international fiber/submarine cable capacity in order to drive down latency, improve customer experience and serve the growing demand of data services in years to come.”
Airtel’s V-Fiber technology is already present in 30 cities in India with expansion plans in the pipeline. It has different plans ranging from Rs. 799 to Rs. 2,199 per month, in which it offers speeds between 100 Mbps to 300 Mbps.
The Revised Broadband Plan of Rs.699
The plan that has gone under revision recently is the Broadband Plan for Rs.699. Valid in the Chennai district, a ginormous 700GB benefit is offered to the subscribers of the said plan. This means the customers of the Rs.699 broadband plan will now get a FUP limit five times more than before. Other operative circles of the BSNL are getting new broadband plans of Rs.695 and Rs.799. Besides the FUP limit, earlier offered speed of 10Mbps has also been upped to 20Mbps.
Benefits to Subscribers of the Revised Plan
As per the revised benefits, the subscribers of Rs.699 Broadband Plan can now enjoy a FUP benefit of 700GB and a speed of 20Mbps. Once the user crosses the FUP limit, he will be able to surf the net at a speed of 2Mbps which is a decent speed able to stream 720p quality Youtube videos.
The decision to upgrade the speed from 10Mbps to 20Mbps comes as a result of countering competition. Though in comparison, even the 20Mbps speed offered by BSNL is way short of what the other telcos are offering, the increase in FUP limit more than makes up for it, especially, for the residents of Chennai.
The Fixed-Line Service
Besides the broadband, the Rs.699 plan’s bundled fixed-line service also gets an upgrade. Like other broadband service providers, BSNL has also given its Rs.699 plan subscribers an unlimited voice calling benefit. According to BSNL, the users can now make an unlimited voice call to any network within the country. With its fixed-line service one of the more renowned in India, this moves adds more glory to it.
For months, BSNL has been working hard to bring-up its plans in line with the competition. More so with the announcement of Reliance’s Jio GigaFiber. Once it became common knowledge that subscribers of Jio GigaFiber will be getting high-speed internet, almost all the players in the space lifted the FUP Limit off the favoured broadband plans.
Some telcos not just increased the FUP Limit, they increased the speed too on certain broadband plans of theirs. To lock-in users, Bharti Airtel, ACT Fibernet, and You Broadband are offering up to 20 percent discounts on yearly subscriptions.
JioGigaFiber Preview Offer
Since the news of Jio GigaFiber hit the stands, all the ISPs (Image Signal Processor) are making strategic moves to retain and gain customers. They are not going to make it easy for Jio to operate in the highly competitive telecom sector. To counter the same, Jio has come up with a ‘JioGigaFiber Preview Offer’. Under the offer, for the first quarter, subscribers will get a free broadband service of 100Mbps speed with 100 GB of data monthly.
BSNL Launches Rs.499 Postpaid Plan With Unlimited Voice Calling, 45GB Monthly Data Benefits
Connecting subscribers according to Jio’s popularity, the Jio GigaFiber also offers a ‘Data Top-up Scheme’, wherein, the users can top up their internet account to enjoy the high-speed uninterrupted internet.
