Gmail Launches ‘Confidential Mode’ For Its Mobile App

Gmail is all set to roll out ‘Confidential Mode’ for its mobile app users. With it, you can protect your attachments by according them passwords as well as set expiration timelines.

Being alert helps to keep the delicate information in your Gmail account, safe and beyond the harm’s way. Even then, at the recent I/O for Gmail, Google announced the ‘Confidential Mode’ for its email service users. As per the official Google+ page of the company, the confidentiality feature will soon be made available to the mobile app users initially.

Confidentiality Mode

Suppose you are in a situation wherein you have to use the public mailing service to send some case-sensitive papers for say a property purchase, or even a copy of your driver’s licence because of certain situations. Where earlier this could have riddled you with worry, with Gmail’s new ‘Confidentiality Mode’, you can now breathe easy.

All you need to do is enable the ‘Confidentiality Mode’ of the particular email that contains the sensitive information. Enabling the mode will allow you to obstruct the receiver’s capacity to either forward or download or even copy the sent document. It also allows the user to set up an expiration timeline to the attachments. Further, you can set a password to view the documents. This way you can regulate who all can view the sent document. That is to say, only the ones who have the requisite password can read the document.

The feature works for any email. If the recipient has a Gmail account as well, he will get the mail as usual. But in case the recipient is a non-Gmail user then he will receive a link to view the actual email.

The confidentiality feature once live, can be found by clicking on the settings button. The 3-dots are placed on the corner top right side of the Compose UI. Clicking on it will allow you to see all the settings that you can enable if you want to send an email through ‘Confidentiality Mode’.
