OxygenOS on the OnePlus 6 (Review) and other older handsets from the company might look and feel like stock Android but it comes with plenty of nifty little features for usability improvements. In fact, these features are so useful that I think Google should even consider adding them to stock Android.
While some of the features might cater to advanced users, there are others which are just too basic and should simply be a part of stock Android.

This is such a simple feature but one that now needs to be a part of stock Android. The process of pressing the Volume down and power button on an Android device to take a screenshot now just feels tedious and slow. OnePlus includes a nifty three-finger swipe down screenshot gesture in OxygenOS which makes taking a screenshot a breeze.
It is not a feature unique to OxygenOS though as the same gesture is also available on many other Android devices. And for some strange reason, this feature is also disabled by default in OxygenOS so make sure to enable it on your OnePlus 3/5/6 by going to Settings → Gestures.
OnePlus 6 OxygenOS Tip: Customise Call Vibration Patterns
Another handy little feature in OxygenOS that needs to be available across all Android devices. Instead of the usual vibration pattern, you can customize the incoming call vibration pattern in OxygenOS to “dzz-da”, “da-da-dzzz”, “mm-mm-mm,” and more. Again, it is a simple feature but one that you will really learn to appreciate once you start using it.
The feature comes in handy since by setting a different vibration pattern for incoming calls, you will easily distinguish between an incoming call and a notification when the phone is in your pocket. You can customize the incoming call vibration pattern in OxygenOS from Settings → Sound & vibration → Incoming call vibration pattern.

You don’t really need a gaming phone to get the best possible gaming experience while on the go. OnePlus includes a useful Gaming mode feature which automatically optimizes the OS for the best gaming performance.
Apart from blocking incoming call and alarm notifications, Gaming mode in OxygenOS on the OnePlus 6 can also disable the automatic brightness to ensure the varying screen brightness does not end up affecting your gaming experience. Other handy options that are a part of Gaming mode include Network boost which limits the network activity of other apps and the ability to automatically route calls to the speaker. There’s also a Gaming battery saver option which automatically changes the resolution and FPS of the game so as to maximize the battery life of the handset.
You can specify the list of games installed on your phone for which Gaming mode should automatically turn itself on. You can find all the relevant Gaming mode options in OxygenOS under Settings → Advanced → Gaming Mode.
OnePlus 6 OxygenOS Tip: Scheduled Power On/Off
If you are someone who likes to switch off their phone during a certain time of the day, you will find the Scheduled power on/off functionality in OxygenOS very handy. Simply set a time when you want your phone to power itself off along with a time when it should power itself back on, and you are done!
Your phone will then automatically turn itself off/on during the specified time every day. The Scheduled power on/off option in OxygenOS is located under Settings → Advanced → Scheduled Power On/Off.

Like me, if you are not a fan of unwanted icons cluttering your status bar, worry not as OxygenOS has got you covered here as well. The Icon manager option in OxygenOS will allow you to hide unwanted icons from the status bar thereby giving it a cleaner look.
It is one of those little customisation features that gives one a peace of mind and makes them fall in love with what OxygenOS has to offer. The icon manager option is tucked under Settings → Status Bar → Icon Manager.
OnePlus 6 OxygenOS Tip: Use The Shelf To Quickly Access Things You Want Often
OnePlus has made steady improvements to the default OxygenOS launcher. In fact, it is among the very few OEM launchers to support custom icon packs. But that’s not it: the OnePlus launcher also has Shelf.
As the name suggests, think of Shelf as a drawer where you will find some useful options and settings. Apart from showing all your recent contacts, apps, and data use, you can also set up Shelf to provide you with quick access to certain widgets. This way, you can have ‘n’ number of widgets a swipe away without any of them taking up space on your home screen and blocking the view of your beautiful wallpaper.
To access Shelf in OxygenOS on the OnePlus 3, 5 or 6, simply swipe to the right from the default home screen panel.
