OnePlus Logo

Google released the stable version of Android 9 Pie at the beginning of August. And quite a lot of OnePlus devices are already ported to the new OS by Google including the flagship OnePlus One that’s already been on the market for four years now.

All of Chinese electronics manufacturer’s OnePlus devices are now ported to a relatively stable version of Android 9 Pie even though Google has only launched the official version this month. This is the handiwork of several hard working Android models, a mod guides’ sites who managed to port many of the handsets to a version of Android 9 including the four-year-old OnePlus One.

Besides the older OnePlus One, even the relatively newer OnePlus models OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T have gotten the unofficial update of the new operating system by Google. The Guangdong-based maker, Shenzhen, confirmed that both the relatively new OnePlus models; OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T, will be officially upgraded with Android Pie by the end of 2018.

The Unofficial Android 9 Pie

The version of Pie OS that the Android modders have used to update the OnePlus devices are the beta builds and hence are basically a software solution by third-parties. Therefore, it is advisable to not upload this version of Android 9 Pie onto the phones if you are not sure of what you are getting into.

The firmware unofficially versions updated are majorly hackneyed Android experiences that were optimized for OnePlus devices and not the attempts that were made to create customized Oxygen OS built on the latest crucial iteration of the most popular OS. That is why the functionality of the unofficial version of Android 9 Pie is limited. Therefore, the OS will be riddled with occasional bugs and no guaranteed software support.

OnePlus Upcoming Plans

OnePlus 6T from the OnePlus stables is on the verge of being launched. When it makes its appearance on the market in October it will not be running on Android 9 Pie but is going to be upgraded to a new OS a few weeks after its release. This isn’t a new tactic by OnePlus but an old habit of the makers. It did the same thing when OnePlus 5T hit the market with 7.1.1 Nougat instead of 8.0 Oreo which had already been on the scene a few months in advance and was at a stable reputation.

Seemingly, OnePlus 6T will be launching for the first time ever on an American carrier. According to a recent report, OnePlus 6T will be retailed exclusively by T-Mobile when it officially launched in the market in fall.

Android 9 Pie: Features

Besides the usual, Google has added some cool new features into its Android 9.0. For example, with Android 9 Pie, the user can connect as many as five devices via bluetooth at once and the most suitable device to receive a call for the time being picks it up. Additionally, Android Pie remembers the last volume setting of each of the paired device. Another feature is the rotate button that lets your phone settings remain undisturbed while you get to rotate the screen as per your requirements.
