The new Samsung smartphone called Samsung Galaxy A8 Star has been announced and will go on sale exclusively on Amazon. It is a premium handset but does not carry any flagship chipset, and is aimed at the mid-range premium smartphone segment, which is a tough pool to navigate in, since the price range sees several flagships handsets by Chinese manufacturers.

The Samsung Galaxy A8 Star will be on sale exclusively on Amazon.in from August 27, and will sell at Rs 34,990, Samsung has announced. Amazon has put up a Notify Me option for buyers to receive sale commencement alerts, and there seem to be some Easy EMI offers, although Amazon has not given any details of the offers yet.
Samsung A8 Star: Specifications
The Samsung Galaxy A8 Star is designed with a glass-metal frame comprising both 2.5D and 3D curved glass. The phone does not follow the notched display format, and instead has a full notch above and a chin below, with thin bezels on the sides. However, it still achieves an excellent 80 per cent screen-to-body ratio and an impressive 18.5:9 aspect ratio.
The phone weighs 188 grams and sports a 6.3-inch Super AMOLED display with a Full HD+ resolution of 1080×2220 pixels. The device is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 octa-core processor paired to Adreno 512 graphics processor, with the CPU employing Kyro architecture and reaching speeds of up to 2.2GHz.
The Samsung Galaxy A8 Star comes in a standard 6GB RAM and 64GB internal storage variant, which can be stretched to 400GB via microSD card. It boots the Samsung Experience 9.0 skin based on Android Oreo and comes with a nice 3,700 mAh battery and a 15W fast charging adapter. The rear dual camera is a 16MP+24MP unit and the front camera has a 24MP sensor, with the fingerprint sensor on the rear panel. The device comes with NFC, using which you can use Samsung Pay, the wireless and one-touch payment service on premium Samsung handsets. Other connectivity specs include dual SIM 4G VoLTE support, Bluetooth 5.0, dual-band WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, and Type-C reversible connector.
You also get a 3.5mm audio jack on this handset, with Dolby Atmos sound technology for the audio jack output.
Samsung A8 Star: Camera Features
Samsung is calling the camera on this handset a new Dual Rear IntelliCam, which can make automatic adjustments based on lighting conditions to take clear images in day and night both. Both rear sensors in the rear dual camera get a wide f/1.7 aperture while the primary sensor gets phase-detection autofocus as well. The front camera comes with AR stickers, Pro Lighting, and Face Beauty for portrait touch-ups.
