There is no denying how Google’s own camera app is noticeably better compared to custom camera apps made by most smartphone manufacturers. Now, the same guys have uncovered a much simpler method of installing the app on select Xiaomi smartphones.

The complete list of Xiaomi smartphones that can sideload Google’s camera app is comprised of the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S, Mi 8, Mi 8 Explorer Edition, Mi 8 SE, and the recently launched Poco F1. Xiaomi phones don’t come with support for Camera2 API out-of-the-box. However, all smartphones being powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 and Snapdragon 845 chipsets come with support for this Camera2 API by default. Therefore, such devices do not need to have their bootloader unlocked or go through a complicated process to root them. Benefits of using Google’s Camera App

Google’s camera app comes baked-in on its Pixel devices. The fact that this app is inherently better at capturing photos and videos because of well-programmed algorithms is the primary reason for users to prefer using this app on other Android phones. HDR+ is a feature found on this app which is significantly better at combining overexposed and underexposed images to improve dynamic range and colours. The app also allows portrait shots to be taken via both the front and rear cameras.

An update that came out for the app earlier this year added the feature called “Show dirty lens warning”. Enabling this option allows the app to warn you if it thinks the camera lens is obstructed with dirt or smudges. This would allow you the chance to clean your lens before having to waste time – and storage – by capturing a blurry image or video.

While there are ways to install the app on phones that might not support it by default, it is worth mentioning that the app might not always play nicely with every phone. The phone features a 6.18-inch 1080 x 2246 Full HD+ resolution IPS LCD display with an 18.7:9 aspect ratio. For imaging, the handset comes with a dual camera setup at the back comprised of a 12MP primary lens accompanied by a 5MP depth sensor. This setup is said to feature various AI-powered features including 206 scenes detection across 25 categories. The selfie shooter is a large 20MP camera.
