Sony is going to be rolling out the Android 9 Pie update to its Xperia XZ2, Xperia XA2 and several other devices by the fourth quarter of this year. If you own the Xperia XZ2, the Xperia XA2, or the devices that we are going to mention below, follow the details carefully because you will eventually be able to experience the latest and greatest operating system update from Google.
Sony Xperia XZ2, XA2 Android 9 Pie Update: Release Details
Google’s Android 9 Pie has officially been released, but this update is going to be running in the Xperia XZ2 and Xperia XA2 towards the end of the year. It is unlikely that Sony is going to be updating its 2016 Xperia smartphone lineup so if you currently own a device from the manufacturer but it was launched two years ago, you will not be able to experience the latest features that Google has cooked up for you.
Devices like the Xperia XZ2, Xperia XZ2 Compact, Xperia XZ2 Premium, Xperia XA2, Xperia XA2 Ultra, Xperia XA2 Plus, Xperia XZ1, Xperia XZ1 Compact, Xperia XZ Premium, and Xperia XZs are expected to be eligible for the software update. All devices belonging to the XA2 series will be updated to Android 9 Pie during the first quarter of 2019, while the remaining are expected to receive it during the fourth quarter of this year.
Sadly, the rest of the devices that Sony launched previously are not going to be receiving the special update treatment. If you want to experience what Android 9 Pie is going to be all about, then you will need to purchase a brand new smartphone or upload a custom ROM to your existing handset.
Android 9 Pie: What’s New
Android 9 Pie is the ninth major release from Google and it will improve through machine learning. Machine learning is expected to make your device smarter and a feature called Adaptive Battery can automatically figure out which apps are used the least. From there, it cuts off resources to them in order to save battery life extensively.
Another feature in Android 9 Pie is called Adaptive Brightness. This will automatically adjust the display brightness based on your current location and the kind of work you are doing on your device. Also, with the new update, the frequently-performed tasks can be performed even quicker using machine learning.
If you have been reading up on Android 9 Pie, then you must be knowing about Digital Wellbeing. This feature has been specifically developed to cut back on phone usage and keep you more focused on things that are more important. Additionally, the latest version of Android can significantly change the way apps ask and manage biometric authentication. The request for security PIN, fingerprint verification or iris scanning is now handled at the very core of the Android smartphone platform and not at the surface of the running applications.
Android 9 Pie will also be accompanied by yet another new feature called ‘Slices’. With Slices, apps can insert themselves into your searches so you can complete a specific task at a faster pace. The new update also brings a new ‘system navigation’. With this, the previous set of three buttons at the bottom that you normally used to see are now be replaced by two.
With the latest change, you can adopt gesture-related actions to carry out other tasks. This might sound complicated at first, but the learning curve is not very steep, so you will get used to it in no time.
