Jio Phone 2 vs Micromax Spark Go: Ultra-affordable 4G VoLTE Mobiles Compared for Price, Features

After a decade of spurted growth, the sales of smartphones have started to flatten in India, with feature phones gaining more prominence. A basic phone is basically a kind of mobile phone that has more features than a regular cell phone but it is not the same as a smartphone. Jio introduced its dumbphone, the Jio Phone last year and the debut device made it the best selling feature phone brand in India. Another player is Micromax, which also makes affordable, entry-level devices. Back in July, the successor to the Jio Phone was launched and now Micromax has launched Spark Go. Let’s find out how the two phones stack up.

Jio Phone 2 vs Micromax Spark Go Build, Display Features

The Jio Phone 2 sports a 2.40-inch QVGA display with a resolution of 240×320 pixels, while the newly launched Micromax Spark Go has a bigger 5.0-inch FWVGA screen with a resolution of 480×854 pixels. Both the phones have a plastic body, which is hardly surprising as they are budget phones. The Jio Phone 2 has a physical QWERTY keyboard, while the Micromax has put the screen inside the display.

Jio Phone 2 vs Micromax Spark Go Hardware, Performance

The Jio Phone 2 is fueled by a 1GHz dual-core processor and accompanied by 512MB of RAM and 4GB of onboard memory which is expandable up to 128GB via a microSD card. Comparatively, the new Micromax Spark 2 is powered by the quad-core Spreadtrum SC9832E processor, coupled with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage which is expandable up to 32GB. It goes without saying that the Micromax Spark Go is a better pick when it comes to performance.

Jio Phone 2 vs Micromax Spark Go Software

The Jio Phone 2 runs KaiOS, which is a web-based operating system with a rich user interface. On the other hand, the Micromax Spark Go runs Android 8.1 Oreo (Go edition). KaiOS is an emerging OS and Google itself has invested in it, which means the search giant is aware of its smarts. It also offers native access to apps such as WhatsApp, Facebook, and Youtube. Android Go, on the other hand, is a stripped down version of Android designed to run on basic phones. When it comes to OS, it all boils down to personal preference so you will have to decide for yourself which one you like more.

Jio Phone 2 vs Micromax Spark Go Camera

The Jio Phone 2 features a 2MP rear camera and a 0.3MP selfie shooter, while the Micromax Spark Go takes the cake here with its 5MP rear camera and 2MP selfie camera. Both the cameras are accompanied by flash. Although we do not expect the camera on the Micromax Go to be superb, it does look better than the camera specs of the Jio Phone 2 on paper. In this segment, it is all about if you’ll be using the phone as your daily driver and will camera on a feature phone will be of utmost use to you.

Jio Phone 2 vs Micromax Spark Go Battery Life, Connectivity

While feature phones are an affordable option for the demographic that can’t afford smartphones, some people use them as an alternative phone because of their long battery life. Both the smartphones have a 2000mAH battery and are 4G VoLTE-enabled. There is no difference in the specs for this segment, so you will have to make a choice which you prefer.

Jio Phone 2 vs Micromax Spark Go Conclusion

With a bigger display, faster processor, larger storage capacity, and better camera specifications, the Micromax Spark Go is the winner hands down. However, there is a catch: the Rs. 3,999 Micromax Spark Go costs INR 1000 more than the Jio Phone 2. However, the phone is available at an introductory price of Rs. 3,499 right now at Flipkart.

With a comparatively larger screen and faster chipset, Micromax is venturing more into the smartphone territory and we aren’t sure how that would bode with the price-sensitive Indian market. Moreover, 1000 bucks more could get you a smartphone with full-fledged Android experience.
