Xiaomi separated Redmi as a sub-brand, and over the past few months, there have been rumors regarding an upcoming flagship smartphone from Redmi. Today, the company has made it official of its plans to launch a high-end smartphone. Redmi posted a short teaser video on the company’s official Weibo account in China, confirming its flagship smartphone’s name—Redmi X—as well as its plans to launch a special variant of the phone.
The teaser video (click the source link below the article to watch the video) starts off by showing clips of the recently released Avengers: Endgame movie and all the recent Redmi launches, including the Redmi 7, Redmi Note 7 (Review), and the Redmi Note 7 Pro (Review), finally making way for a short clip of the Redmi X’s front design. Redmi’s Weibo post confirmed a few rumors about the Redmi X’s pop-up selfie camera and bezel-less screen.
Since the OPPO F11 Pro‘s Avengers Edition phone has already been launched in India, it could clash with Redmi X’s Avengers Edition phone, so it would be interesting to see what’s the connection between the Redmi X and the Avengers: Endgame movie. Going by all the leaks and reports, we can expect the Redmi X to be unveiled, at least in China, in the next few weeks. Over time, we also expect the phone to hit the Indian market. So, what’s so interesting about the Redmi X? Let’s check out everything we know about it so far.
Redmi X: Every Feature, Specifications We Know About it So Far
The Redmi X is expected to feature a 6.39-inch IPS LCD screen with Full HD+ resolution and a completely bezel-less design. And that comes, thanks to the pop-up selfie camera on the Redmi X, making it the first phone from Xiaomi (taking into consideration all its sub-brands) to feature such a front-facing camera mechanism. We don’t expect the company to use an AMOLED screen in the Redmi X, because, after all, Redmi is supposed to be a value-for-money brand and an AMOLED panel can drastically increase the pricing of a phone. There could also be an in-screen fingerprint reader.
The Redmi X is expected to run Android 9 (Pie)-based MIUI 10 software. The upcoming phone will reportedly use the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset, the same chipset that’s used in the Mi 9, Mi 9 Explorer Edition, and the Mi MIX 3 5G. The Redmi X could also come with as high as 8GB of RAM and up to 128GB internal storage. In the imaging department, the phone is expected to feature a triple-camera setup at the rear, with the main sensor being the 48MP resolution unit from Sony (the same sensor that’s used in the Redmi Note 7 Pro). The phone could feature a 32MP selfie camera, similar to the recently announced Redmi Y3.
Xiaomi could equip the Redmi X with 4G LTE, dual-SIM card slot, Bluetooth 5.0, IR emitter, a USB Type-C port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The Redmi X will most probably be powered by a 4000mAh battery and support for Quick Charge 4+.
Will Redmi X Be Released As POCO F2 in India?
There has been quite some time since the POCO F1 (Review) was released in India, and it is time for the brand to release its successor. Since Xiaomi’s POCO-branded aren’t available in China, the Redmi X could be launched in India rebranded as the POCO F2.
Since the POCO F1 was launched last year with the best Qualcomm’s best chipset available at that time, it seems logical to launch the successor to the POCO F1 with 2019’s best Qualcomm chipset, the Snapdragon 855. Hence, we expect the POCO F2 (will that be the final name?) to feature the Snapdragon 855 and the rest of Redmi X’s specifications.
