Sony PS5 India Launch Date Revealed, Will be Available From February 2: Here’s When the Pre-orders Start, Retailer Availability, and More

Sony PS5 India Release has been a long, long wait. After a global launch that started in November, we have seen the rest of the world get multiple restocks while the Sony PS5 stock has stayed limited. However, it looks like India’s turn is finally here.

Sony had been staying mum on the PS5 India launch date despite the console having made it to most parts of the world early. After nearly radio silence on the issue, and a rumoured January 2021 launch window, Sony has just announced that they will be launching the PS5 in India on February 2. Here’s all we know about the PS5 India launch right now.

Sony PS5 Launching in India on February 2nd, Preorders to Begin 12th January

Sony India has chosen to kickstart the new year with PS5 India launch reveal for us. Sony PS5 will launch in India on the 2nd of February, 2021. Pre-orders will go live on the 12th of January, 2021, at 12 PM.

The retailers that will have the PS5 for pre-orders are Amazon, Flipkart, Croma, Reliance Digital, Games The Shop, Shop at Sony Center, Vijay Sales and select other authorized Sony retail partners.

We have no direct mention about the stock availability, or whether there will be a staggered rollout. We had previously discussed a report by The Mako Reactor that said that the metro cities would be getting the offline stocks first, followed by other locations two weeks later. However, the online stocks are most likely to be available nationwide, so with some elbow grease and quick fingers, you should be able to cop one at launch.

The Sony PS5 will cost Rs 39,990 for the Digital Edition, and Rs 49,990 for the standard edition in India. First-party game prices are also expected to be revealed in the coming days, as well as those of the accessories like the DualSense controller.

Stay tuned to us for more on the Sony PS5 India release!

2020 Winners and Losers: Google

2020 was an interesting year for Google. After releasing its first mid-ranger with the the Pixel 3a in 2019 the company eschewed the flagship segment altogether in 2020. The Pixel 4a, Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5 all use Snapdragon 700 series chipsets and have a total of 8 cameras between them including the selfie snappers. The shift from proper flagship hardware, meant Google doubled-down on software as the core of a great experience. A very "in-character" decision for the search giant, but Pixel traditionalists found it a bit hard to accept. Loser: Google Pixel 4a Going in...

Sony PS5 Sold 3.4 Million Units in 2020, Plans to Sell 18 Million Units by 2021 End

Sony PS5 has barely been available since its launch back in November. This might seem like a result of low stocks, but that’s just one side. There has also been a heavy, heavy demand for the PS5, and that means that the stocks have been flying off the shelves as soon as they arrive.

So exactly how well has the Sony PS5 sold? According to a new report, Sony has managed to sell 3.4 million units in 2020. It has no plans to slow down now, as the new-gen gaming console aims to hit up to 18 million units in sales in 2021.

Sony Expected to Sell 16.8-18 Million PS5 Units in 2021

Sony PlayStation 5 teardown

A new report by DigiTimes says that Sony has managed to ship a record-breaking 3.4 million units of the PS5 within the first four weeks of its launch. This is the highest ever sales figure for any PlayStation console.

Sony pulled this feat off despite the stocks being limited, and a full global rollout not quite happening as expected. For example, the console is yet to launch in India, where we have no information except the pricing of the console.

However, that likely will be fixed in 2021. The report says that Sony is planning to take the PS5 production up to reach between 16.8 to 18 million units. This will require some upscaling, and Sony is apparently going to be banking on the additional capacity from TSMC facilities.

AMD makes the chipsets that go into the PS5, based on the Ryzen and RDNA 2 platforms. It seems to have acquired additional foundry capacity from TSMC, which should help it increase the supply of its chips made under its own brand, as well those needed for the PS5 production.

This is likely to mean that barring another global health crisis, we should all be able to have better access to the Sony PS5 in 2021. Fingers crossed!

Have a better 2021, and happy gaming!

iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max Tipped to Sport 120Hz ProMotion OLED Displays

It’s been too long since the launch of the iPhone 12series and now all the eyes are up for the upcoming iPhone 13 series which is expected to launch in September 2021. We have already witnessed a series of leaks and rumours about the upcoming iPhone series and now the latest report from Korea, Apple is planning to launch two top models iPhones with 120Hz refresh OLED displays. Samsung Display and LG Display are going to be the prime supplier of the OLED panels. Here’s a closer look at the latest leaks.

Apple iPhone 13 to Launch With 120Hz ProMotion OLED Displays

According to the report, the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max are going to pack a 120Hz refresh rate ProMotion display. The report also suggested that the vanilla variants like the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini are expected to launch with 120Hz LTPO (Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Oxide) display.

Recently popular tipster and YouTuber Jon Prosser claimed that Apple is working on a next-gen iPhone which is going to be portless. The smartphone is said to be charged via MagSafe, the information was first leaked on Twitter. Meanwhile, the tipster mentioned that the company is not planning to turn all the iPhones into wireless ones.

“MagSafe is the bridge between lightning and portless. It’s also the way Apple can keep things somewhat proprietary without giving in to something as universal as USB-C,” the tipster added citing some industrial sources.

Apple analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo in his report has claimed that the company will not witness any issue with the supply chain in 2021 and the next-gen iPhone 13 series will not face any delay in launch. So we can expect the launch of Apple iPhone 13 this time without any delay. A couple of days back Jon Prosser also claimed that Apple is working on a foldable smartphone which will arrive in a clamshell design. The smartphone is expected to launch in 2022 or 2023 as the company will be needing more time for research and development.

Xiaomi Mi 10i with 108MP Camera and Snapdragon 750G Confirmed To Launch on January 5: Expected Price, Specifications

Xiaomi has been teasing the launch of an upcoming smartphone with a 108MP camera for a week now. We had a couple of pieces of evidence (1, 2) to believe that the upcoming smartphone will be called Xiaomi Mi 10i with code name gauguinpro. To those unaware, Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G, launched recently in China, carries the same code name, which confirms the fact that the upcoming device for the Indian market will be a rebranded Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G. Now, Manu Kumar Jain, MD, Xiaomi India, has confirmed that the upcoming device will indeed be called Mi 10i and it will launch in India on 5th January.

Xiaomi Mi 10i will mark the return of the i-series of devices under the Mi range of smartphones in India. To those unaware, Xiaomi had launched Mi 4i around a price of Rs. 15,000 mark in India back in 2015. Though we do not expect the Mi 10i to be priced similar to the Mi 4i, we do expect to see a similar price-to-performance proposition.

Mr. Manu Jain in his tweet also mentioned that the i in Mi 10i stands for India, as the product has been customized by the Indian product team. Additionally, Mr. Jain has confirmed that Mi 10i will be an extension of the Mi 10T Lite which was announced globally a couple of months back. He also says that the company will include a brand new camera sensor along with a host of customizations specifically for the Indian market.

We will have to wait till the 5th January and see what all changes and customizations Xiaomi has done on the Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G for the Indian market. Xiaomi Mi 10i color options and memory variants were leaked last week. Pretty much everything is known about the device except for the price. Based on the pricing of Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G in China, we can expect Mi 10i to start around a price of Rs. 20,000 in India. Let us have a look at the pricing of Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G,

Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G
6GB 128GB RMB 1,599
(approx Rs. 17,881)
8GB 128GB RMB 1,799
(approx Rs. 20,118)
8GB 256GB RMB 1,999
(approx Rs. 22,354)

As per the information that surfaced on the web last week, Xiaomi may not launch the 8GB and 256GB variant of the smartphone in the Indian market. POCO India had launched 256GB variant of the POCO X2 but with POCO X3, the company decided not to launch a 256GB variant, probably due to less demand? Whatever the reason be, Xiaomi seems to have borrowed a page from POCO’s experience in this regard.

Xiaomi Mi 10i: Features and Specifications

The Mi 10i will feature a 6.67-inch FHD+ LCD screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, and Corning Gorilla Glass5 protection. The smartphone will pack an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 750G SoC coupled with Adreno 619 GPU, and UFS 2.2 storage. The device should offer a 108MP quad-rear camera setup with Samsung HM2 sensor. The 108MP sensor will get accompanied by an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens with 120° field-of-views, 2MP depth, and 2MP macro sensor. For the selfies, it might offer a 16MP front shooter.

The smartphone might be to pack a 4,820mAh battery with 33W fast charging. The smartphone should offer a side-mounted fingerprint sensor and an IR sensor. It might offer a 3.5mm audio jack, and stereo speaker setup. What are your thoughts on the Mi 10i? Do let us know in the comments section below.

Not Just the Charger, The Samsung Galaxy S21 Box Won’t Even Include Earphones

Apple was the first smartphone manufacturer brand who shipped their flagship smartphones without charger and earphones. For this bold step, the company was criticized by mostly all the fans, enemy brands, and reviewers as well. Last week it was reported that Samsung is also planning to ditch the charger from its upcoming flagship smartphone the Galaxy S21 series. Now the latest report is claiming that the South Korean tech giant is also planning to ditch the earphones from the retails.

Samsung Galaxy S21 Series will Ditch Charger and Headphones

However, all these are speculation and there is still some hope that earphones will remain in the retail box. One leak suggests that the flagship phones will come with the upcoming Galaxy Buds Beyond/Pro. Here’s a closer look at the latest leak.

Earlier a popular leakster Roland Quandt said that the Galaxy S21 is not going to pack a charger, cover, and headphones in the retail box. Now, popular tipster, Ishan Agarwal has also tweeted a post hinting the same. However, at the time of writing this article Ishan deleted the tweet, and moreover, he was talking about the UK-bound models, but it seemed to apply for all the regions including India.

Samsung S21

Samsung was too quick to make a comment on Apple when it announced that the iPhone models will not include the headphone and chargers in the retail box. It has been reported that Samsung is now deleting all the social media posts in which it had mocked Apple for this bold decision.

According to a filing in Brazil, it has been confirmed that the Galaxy S21, S21 Plus, and the S21 Ultra will be launched without chargers. In the retail box, buyers will only find the USB-C to USB-C cable along with the main unit. It is also expected that the company plans to launch a new 30W brick alongside the launch of the Galaxy S21 series which is said to be cheaper than the 25W charger.

My top 5 phones of 2020 - George

I won't lie, it's been a tough year. Just to make myself clear I've enjoyed staying at home and not meeting people and all that, and it has given me the opportunity to reignite my past love for quiet indoor hobbies otherwise hampered by all the going to places (yeah, as if). No, I'm talking about finding a phone that would make me run to the store on launch day. Or maybe pre-order. Whichever is the more rushed and impulsive of the two. Perhaps I should just accept that I'm no longer a run-to-the-store kind of guy? Anyway, I do have a list of phones that I feel are worth saying a few...

OnePlus is planning to enter the budget fitness tracker segment in India. The company is gearing up to launch OnePlus Band in India in Q1 2021. Furthermore, it will offer a multi-day battery life.

The report adds OnePlus Band will be debuting in India initially and will be available in other markets at a later date. The OnePlus Band price in India might be Rs 3,000, which puts it against the likes of Xiaomi Mi Band 5, Honor Band 5, and more. Moving on, our in-house tipster Mukul Sharma has also revealed a render of the upcoming fitness tracker. The render reveals that the fitness band will be available in three straps colour options including Black, Grey, and Blue. The wearable comes with a rectangular colour display along with a silicone strap. This looks similar to the Mi Band 5.

Xiaomi is currently the leader of the fitness tracker segment and one of the top-selling product in this category is Mi Band 5. The fitness band offers some good features like AMOLED display, heart-rate monitor, sleep tracking, 5ATM water resistance, 11 sports mode, 14 days of battery life, and more. Apple May Be Working On a ‘Reconfigurable’ MacBook Keyboard With Small Displays On Each Keys

Apple has patented a new reconfigurable keyboard for the Mac. This new keyboard has a small display for each key, which will show different characters as per the user’s preferences. The reconfigurable keyboard might remind you of the Touch Bar on the MacBook models. However, a 9to5Mac report suggests that the patented Mac keyboard with a small display will work differently. According to the report, the physical keys would still be there, but the patent shows that the keys on this new keyboard contain a super small display for each key instead of regular engraved labels. Let’s take a look at the new Apple patent for the reconfigurable Mac keyboard.

Apple files patent for reconfigurable Mac keyboard with a small display for each key

Apple recently filed a patent for a new version of Touch Bar with Force Touch technology. The Cupertino-based US tech giant has now filed another patent at the US Patent & Trademark Office for a reconfigurable Mac keyboard.

Each key of this reconfigurable Mac keyboard will have a tiny display. The display will be used to show different characters based on the user’s preferences. The patent granted by the US Patent & Trademark Office reveals a keyboard with dynamic labels that are generated by organic light-emitting diode displays with pixel arrays. The display is not expected to have a high resolution nor some fancy specifications.

The purpose of the reconfigurable MacBook keyboard is to allow users to set different layouts for different use cases. For example, specific layouts for playing games, editing, programming, etc.

“The user may, for example, desire to switch a keyboard between a first format (e.g., an English-language format) and a second format (e.g., a Greek-language format),” the report stated. In response to user input to switch the keyboard, control circuitry in an electronic device can adjust the key labels being displayed by the key displays from English letters to Greek letters, thereby switching the keyboard from the first format to the second format.

Apple is considering the reconfigurable keyboard for its MacBook line and also standalone keyboards built for the iMac, Mac mini, and Mac Pro.

Filing a patent does not necessarily mean that the feature or hardware will make it to a future product. Apple could simply be testing the new tech. The patent does give an indication that the company is working on something new to improve its physical keyboard.

What are your thoughts on the new Apple patent? Do let us know in the comments below.
