Apple Car May Not Launch Before 2025: Ming Chi Kuo

Apple is reportedly working on an electric vehicle. The Apple Car was previously tipped to launch in 2024. However, popular analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims that the electric vehicle could launch between 2025 and 2027 at the earliest. He further noted that the vehicle’s launch timeframe is pushed out even farther to 2028 or later. Apple’s self-driving EV is tipped to feature cutting-edge battery tech. It will feature a unique “mono-cell” battery design that frees up space inside the battery pack by eliminating pouches and modules that hold battery materials. It will also come with a LiDAR sensor found on the Apple iPhone 12 Pro and iPad Pro models. Let’s take a look at the Apple Car launch details, specifications, features, and other details

Apple Car unlikely to launch before 2025, claims analyst Kuo

The news of Apple Car launching soon has been around for quite some time. The latest development from analyst Kuo comes after a Reuters report that suggested the Apple EV launch in 2024. Kuo’s investor note obtained by MacRumors states that the Apple Car specifications have not been finalised yet. This could result in a delayed launch. Kuo believes that the vehicle could launch between 2025-2027 at the earliest. However, the launch time frame could be pushed to 2028 or later.

“We predicted in a previous report that Apple will launch Apple Car in 2023–2025 […] However, our latest survey indicates that the current development schedule of Apple Car is not clear, and if development starts this year and everything goes well, it will be launched in 2025–2027 at the earliest. Due to changes in the EV/self-driving market and Apple’s high-quality standards, we would not be surprised if Apple Car’s launch schedule is postponed to 2028 or later,” Kuo’s investor note stated.

He further added that the market is “overly bullish” about the Apple Car’s launch schedule. Kuo advised investors to avoid buying Apple Car-related stocks at this time.

The analyst further speculates uncertainty about Apple’s competitiveness in the EV/self-driving vehicle market due to the company lagging behind in deep learning/artificial intelligence. He noted that big data and artificial intelligence could drive the Apple Car’s success in the self-driving car space. However, the current competition will have at least five years of big data and be conducive to deep learning/AI. Apple, on the other hand, will be entering the space.

Apple Car specifications (rumoured)

A Reuters report recently claimed that the Apple Car will feature breakthrough tech including a new battery design. The company is looking at a mono-cell design, which crams in more individual cells into the battery packs. This will result in a longer range per charge.

It would also include LiDAR sensors. The sensors scan distances and are currently used in the iPhone 12 Pro and iPad Pro models. Some sensors could be derived from Apple’s internally developed LiDAR units. These sensors will be the basis for enabling autonomous tech on the cars.
