iPhone 14 launch event will be hosted on September 7. At the Apple event titled Far Out, the company will unveil four new iPhone models. The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max are rumoured to get significant upgrades this year compared to the non-Pro models. Apple is rumoured to ditch the notch in favour of a hole punch cutout and a pill-shaped cutout. The cutouts will house the Face ID sensors and the front camera. Days before the official unveiling, a new leak revealed how the dual notch setup on the Pro models would work.
Apple is likely to switch off the pixels between the hole punch and the pill-shaped cutouts. The reason behind doing so is not just for aesthetic purposes but for functional features as well. Reportedly, the gap between the two cutouts will be used for the camera and mic indicator. The privacy-focused features show a green or an orange dot at the top when an app is using the camera or microphone. Apple is said to use the gap between the cutouts for this feature.
When not in use, the pixels between the two cutouts will be backed out, making it look like one wide pill-shaped cutout. Of course, since the dual notch setup is exclusive to the Pro models this year, the privacy indicators are likely to be placed at the top right corner for the standard iPhone 14 and 14 Max/ 14 Plus.
Some mocked renders of the upcoming redesign have been uploaded on the MacRumours forum, giving us a better representation of how the setup could look like.
