iPhone 15 series launch event is many months away. The next generation iPhone models are likely to launch in September 2023. Apple will launch four iPhone models this year, as per leaks. The iPhone 15 and 15 Plus will be among the most affordable options. There will also be the 15 Pro sitting below the 15 Pro Max, which could also replaced by an Ultra moniker. The iPhone 15 Pro series was recently tipped to get some design changes. Now, a new report has revealed the first CAD renders of the iPhone 15 Pro models months ahead of the launch.
9to5Mac, citing 3D artist Ian Zelbo, has uploaded some CAD model images of the upcoming iPhone 15 Pro. The renders show that the Pro iPhone model launching later this year will key some key design changes. Let’s take a look at the iPhone 15 Pro CAD images, specifications and other details known so far.
iPhone 15 Pro CAD Images Show USB Type-C Port, Curvier Body
The upcoming iPhone 15 Pro will sit below the Pro Max model launching later this year. CAD images of the upcoming 2023 iPhone have leaked online. The report by 9to5Mac shows that the the biggest noticeable change in the upcoming iPhone is at the bottom edge. There is a USB Type-C port instead of Apple’s proprietary Lightning Port. Apple confirmed that it will comply with the EU law, which makes it mandatory for phones and many electronic items to feature a standard USB Type-C port. However, a recent leak suggested that not all USB Type-C cables will work with the iPhone as Apple is likely to provide support for cables that are MFI-certified.
The other noticeable design change is the curvature of the edges. Both, the glass and the metal frame are curving slightly towards the edges. The frame is slightly more curved than the iPhone 14 Pro models, which could help make the phone a little more comfortable to hold.
The camera bump on the back is said to be thicker, which could be due to Apple upgrading the sensors inside. While the 15 Pro is likely to feature a 48MP triple-camera setup, Apple might introduce the device with larger camera sensors. There is the LiDAR sensor and an LED flash as well.
The volume rockers and the mute switch are also getting a design change, as per the leaked CAD images. The volume buttons look like capacitive buttons instead of mechanical ones. Previously, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claimed that the upcoming iPhone Pro models could go buttonless. Apple is considering replacing the physical buttons with solid-state ones like the Home button since the iPhone 7 series. Apple is said to add more Taptic Engines internally on the left and right sides to provide force feedback.
As per the latest CAD images, the mute switch is also smaller and rounder in shape. The bezels around the display are narrower than the iPhone 14 Pro. While the 15 Pro will be a few mm smaller in terms of height, it will continue to sport a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR display. There is the wide Dynamic Island at the top centre with Face ID sensors and the front camera. The report adds that these renders are based on an early CAD model and may not reflect all aspects of Apple’s final design.

The upcoming 15 Pro models are rumoured to get the new 3nm-based A17 Bionic SoC. They will continue to feature a 48MP primary camera, a 12MP ultra-wide camera and a 12MP telephoto camera. The 15 Pro Max, aka the 15 Ultra might get a periscope camera sensor, which will be a first in any iPhone.
The iPhone 15 and 15 Plus are said to get the Dynamic Island on the front and the same 48MP camera found in the iPhone 14 Pro models. The non Pro models will also feature a 12MP ultra-wide camera.
