BSNL will soon be offering Aadhaar enrolment and updation services at its 3,000 services centers across the country. The arrangement will require up to three months and an investment of over 90 crores to get the facility running. BSNL will be the third government entity after banks and post offices to get authorized by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) for providing Aadhaar services. This move would ease the process of updating Aadhaar details and more centers will further the accessibility.
First Center Will be Ready by January 1
BSNL Chairman and Managing Director, Anupam Shrivastava said that the procuration process has been initiated and the telco is aggressively working on getting the centers ready. He also mentioned that the first center will most likely be up and running from January 1.
Aadhaar is one of the most important documents for the Indian citizens. In the last few months, the government has rolled out multiple mandates regarding its authorization. People have faced difficulties in the past getting their details updated and enrolling for a new card in case of losing it. To get a better hold of the situation, the government set up more service centers and authorized even more entities all across the country for the same. The ease of accessibility still remains an issue. With over 3,000 BSNL service centers offering Aadhaar facilities, there will be no room for any inconvenience in the process. For other basic requirements, there is mAadhaar, which is a valid identity proof. WIth mAdhaar on your smartphone, you don’t need to carry the physical card with you for presenting the Aadhaar details. The government has instructed all the agencies to accept mAadhaar. If you get your details changed at any Aadhaar facility center, it will reflect on your mAadhaar too. You can simply download your updated card details from the app.
BSNL is Gearing up for its 4G Launch
BSNL has a lot going on right now and the agenda on the frontline is rolling out 4G services. The state-run telco has been testing the 4G services on its current spectrum for a while now. It even conducted a soft-launch in Kerela’s Idukki district, which has over 250 towers that are 4G-enabled. The soft-launch has also extended to some areas in Gujarat and Maharashtra. The telecom operator plans on readying over 1,700 4G towers before the year ends. BSNL is getting aggressive with its 4G strategies, now that 2100MHz band has got an affirmative nod for allocation. As part of its 4G service testing, the telco is offering a 4G SIM card and 2GB data for free. After the complete deployment of 4G services, BSNL will completely weed out its 3G network. Users can either latch on to 4G or continue using the 2G network.
BSNL recently took a 4G speed test and recorded an impressive 24.6Mbps download speed and 9.25Mbps upload speed. The numbers look great on paper, but surface at an infant stage when there are limited 4G subscribers. We are hoping to get 4G speeds in the tune of these numbers even after the full-scale launch. In order to keep up with the private telecom operators, BSNL has to maintain the speeds and a reasonable pricing for its plans. Currently, Reliance Jio has the Honor to be the most cost-effective service provider in the market. It will be interesting to see how BSNL 4G holds up against Reliance Jio.
