In December of last year, it was reported that Xiaomi had taken the top spot in the Indian wearable market thanks to the success of its Mi Band 3 – a fitness band which launched back in September 2018 and retails for INR 1,999. This was a well-deserved win for the brand as its wearable truly offers great features at a highly affordable price tag. Apparently, this product has now helped the brand achieve a new milestone. In a recent tweet, Xiaomi announced that the company has sold a total of one million Mi Band 3 units in the country.
The fact that so many of this fitness band have been sold in the country reaffirms how useful and reliable this product is. For those who might be unaware, the Mi Band 3 is a fitness band that does a lot more than track your physical activity. It comes with a monochrome OLED touchscreen display that can be used to view messages from applications, see who is calling on your smartphone, and even reject an incoming call. The Mi Band 3 has an integrated accelerometer and heart-rate sensor for fitness tracking. The device is even capable of tracking your sleep patterns. The band is also waterproof up to 50 meters and has a battery life of up to 20 days.
We helped set some goals and achieved some! Thank you Mi fans, we've sold more than a million #MiBand3 in India.
And you might already know, we are also the #1WearableBrand as per @IDC.

Should You Buy The Mi Band 3 or Wait for Mi Band 4?
With every new generation of the Mi Band, at least one significant new feature gets added. According to David Cui, Chief Financial Officer at Huami, the Mi Band 4 will also follow the same trend. Unfortunately, he did not confirm what the new feature will be, so we are left to speculate. Many speculate the Mi Band 4 will offer ECG capabilities, making it significantly more affordable when compared to offerings from Apple or Fitbit.
With that said, we did get more solid evidence of a new feature for the upcoming Mi Band 4. A recent certification by the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) reveals that there will be a ‘Mi Smart Band 4 NFC’ variant. There will also be a standard variant, and both will get an upgrade to Bluetooth 5.0 Low Energy standard as opposed to the Mi Band 3 which has Bluetooth 4.2.
To be clear, there was a version of the Mi Band 3 that support NFC, but that launched only in China. This time around, there is a chance the NFC model will make its way to other markets including India. If this is the case, users will be able to make contactless payments directly with their fitness band.
Indeed, if features such as ECG and NFC come over to the Mi Band 4 for about the same price as what the Mi Band 3 retails for right now, the former will be a deal worth waiting for. Then again, Xiaomi hasn’t announced the exact release date for the Mi Band 4, so the wait might be a bit longer. If you are in the market right now for an affordable fitness band that gets the job done, you can most definitely go with the Mi Band 3.
