Earlier this week, HMD Global sent out invites to a launch event in Taiwan on April 2. The Finnish company plans to launch the Nokia X71 in Taiwan at the upcoming launch event. While earlier rumors had claimed the Nokia X71 could launch globally as Nokia 8.1 Plus, more recent evidence suggests it could arrive as Nokia 6 (2019) or Nokia 6.2 instead. Ahead of its official unveiling next week, the smartphone has been spotted on the Geekbench benchmark database.
Nokia X71 to Feature a Snapdragon 660 AIE Chipset?
If the Nokia X71 Geekbench listing is genuine, the upcoming smartphone will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chipset under the hood. While the Snapdragon 660 is undoubtedly a dated chipset, it is a decent upgrade compared to the Snapdragon 630 chipset inside the Nokia 6.1. In addition to a more powerful chipset, the Nokia X71 will also include up to 6GB of RAM. As for software, the Geekbench listing confirms the handset will be running on the Android Pie operating system when it goes on sale. However, it remains to be seen if the 6GB RAM variant will be offered only in Taiwan or if it will make its way to other markets as well. The Nokia 6.1 is only available in 3GB and 4GB RAM variants.
It is being speculated that the Nokia X71 will be the company’s first smartphone to have a punch-hole camera cutout in the display. Thanks to the punch-hole, we can expect the Nokia 6.2 to have a much improved screen-to-body ratio compared to its predecessor. The other major highlight of the Nokia X71 is said to be a 48MP triple camera setup. If the rumors turn out to be accurate, the Nokia X71 (Nokia 6.2) will prove to be a strong rival to Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 7.
