Snapdragon 888 5G SoC List of Smartphones Confirmed to Launch: Realme Race, Xiaomi Mi 11, and More

The Qualcomm Snapdragon Tech Summit 2020 kicked off on December 2 and the company has announced the next-gen Snapdragon 800 series chipset Yes, we are talking about the Snapdragon 888! This SoC is going to be equipped on a series of flagship Android smartphones in 2021. Here’s a closer look at the newly-launched chipset and the list of smartphone brands who have confirmed to use it in their flagship phones. 

Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 5G Processor Features

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 885 is the successor of the Snapdragon 865+ SoC, which was launched last quarter. The semiconductor manufacturer has skipped the Snapdragon 875 and launched the SD 885 as the flagship chipset. The newly-launched chipset uses the 3rd Gen Qualcomm Snapdragon X60 5G Modem-RF System with sub-6GHz and mmWave networks support.

The 5G modem provides 5G carrier aggregation, stand-alone, non-standalone, global multi-SIM, and Dynamic Spectrum for better 5G connectivity. Besides, the SD 888 is also capable of handling 26 trillion operations in a second (TOPS) thanks to the new AI Engine inside the chipset. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 5G SoC uses 2nd Gen Qualcomm Sensing Hub which helps in performing low-powered AI tasks. 

The chipset also offers improved AI-driven portrait mode, colour correction, and more among others. The Snapdragon 888 SoC is clubbed with the Adreno 660 GPU with an updated GPU driver. The integrated GPU is capable of offering up to 144fps gaming experience. It is also equipped with the new Qualcomm Spectra ISP that can process up to 2.7 gigapixels photos and videos per second. In simple words, it can capture 120 images of 12megapixel per second.

Just after the launch of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC, a range of smartphone brands has confirmed that they are going to use the processor on their flagship. Realme seems to be the first brand to confirm that it would be among the first devices to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC. According to the company, the flagship smartphone codenamed “Race” will be one of the first smartphones with the launch with the Snapdragon 888 chip.

Meanwhile, Xiaomi seems to be the first one to confirm that the company will use this processor on Mi 11. Lu Weibing, Vice President of Xiaomi General Manager of Redmi has also shared a post on his official Weibo handle claiming that Redmi will also be the first batch to be equipped with the Snapdragon 888 chipset. On the other hand, ZTE has also confirmed that the company’s ZTE Nubia 6, Nubia Z, and Axon 30 will be powered by the newly launched Snapdragon 888 SoC.
