Oppo’s Upcoming Flagship With 50MP Quad Camera May Feature Kodak Branding

The recent trend among smartphone brands has been working with legendary camera manufacturers. Smartphone camera performance has been a huge selling point in recent times and therefore companies are leaving no stone unturned to ensure their product attracts shutterbugs. The likes of Vivo, Nokia have worked or are working with Zeiss, whereas OnePlus is working with Hasselblad. Samsung is rumoured to be working with Olympus for the Galaxy S22 series. Recently, Realme was also said to be joining the club by partnering with Kodak for its next flagship. It turns out, Realme is not the only one working with the legendary US-based camera company. According to a new leak, Chinese smartphone maker Oppo has reportedly partnered with Kodak for its next flagship.

The company is likely to use Sony’s IMX766 sensor, which is also found on the likes of the Find X3 Pro and the OnePlus 9 Pro. A GizChina report, citing tipster Digital Chat Station, states that Oppo is working with Kodak to make a smartphone capable of making use of the old classic camera design on Kodak’s offerings. The camera will include a Sony IMX766 1/1.5-inch sensor. The camera setup will also include a large ultrawide sensor, similar to the one found on the X3 Pro. 

On top of the two sensors is another 13MP telephoto camera lens, which will offer 2x optical zoom capabilities. Lastly, the quad-camera setup will include a 3MP microscope camera, which again is found on the Find X3 Pro.

There is no official word on the partnership from either company yet. Oppo launched the Find X3 series earlier this year and we can expect the next flagship to launch sometime in early 2022. The phone could come with minor improvements in terms of design and an upgraded performance unit. The rest of the details remain unknown at the moment.
