Guess How Much This ‘Apple Smartwatch’ From 1988 Is Set To Sell For

Apple Watch was launched by the company back in 2015, but there was an Apple smartwatch that was available three decades ago….well, kind of. Seiko, the popular company behind wristwatches made “WristMac” back in 1988. This smartwatch used AppleTalk to connect to a Mac. One of the never-worn WristMac smartwatch is now up for sale on an auction website.

Seiko WristMac Up For Auction

The WristMac was used by astronauts on the Atlantis space shuttle. The watch had a portable Macintosh on the inside that was used to send mails. The WristMac used to sound an alarm and display a two-line individual chore reminder.

Currently, a WristMac is up for bidding on an auction website called Comicconnect. According to auction site, the watch could fetch anywhere between $25,000 (roughly 18,61,600) and $50,000 (roughly Rs 37,24,400) at auction. The current bid price is around $1,000 at the time of writing this article, but the auction will end on December 19 一 which is 25 days from now.

Interestingly, the WristMac is in mint condition which means it comes in the original box (opened) and has never been worn by anyone. The box also includes a registration card, manual, software floppy disk, and unopened Seiko WristMac watch with serial No. 70216. Needless to say, this is an extremely rare product in 2021 and is also the first Apple watch ever made over three decades ago. This is one of the first wearable computing technology.

When the astronauts aboard the Atlantis Space Shuttle sent the first email from space on August 28, 1991, they wore WristMac watches to coordinate with the Macintosh Portable and Apple Link software aboard the shuttle. Back in 2014, a rare Apple-1 computer was estimated to be worth between $300,000 and $500,000, and sold at auction for a mind-blowing $905,000 (around Rs 6,73,99,900).
