Maker of the First Foldable Smartphone Gearing Up For Third Generation FlexPai 3, Here’s Your First Look

These days, foldable smartphones are getting popular, and phones like Galaxy Flip Z Flip 3 and Galaxy Z Fold 3 from Samsung are devices that many other device makers envy. However, those following foldable smartphones don’t accept Samsung or Huawei or any other big brand as the pioneer, but the credit goes to Royole, a Chinese brand. Royole FlexPai, back in 2018, was the first commercially launched foldable smartphone that anyone could get. Though Royole FlexPai was not even close to being excellent, it indeed got the attention of media and enthusiasts. The company launched Royole FlexPai 2 last year with some improvements and spec bumps. Now it looks like they’re launching the successor to that too, very soon.

This information comes from none other than Evan Blass, the infamous tipster, who shared a render of the upcoming FlexPai 3. From the render, we get an idea regarding the design of the foldable phone. The Royole FlexPai 3 looks quite polished. It now has a rear camera module instead of the front right bezel. There could be a pop-up selfie camera instead of using the primary camera as a selfie camera like previous models.

This time, the FlexPai 3 comes with a dual-camera setup on the back instead of a quad-camera setup. The Royole FlexPai 3 was recently spotted on TENAA, revealing some of its key specifications. The listing revealed that the foldable phone would come with a 7.2-inch display when unfolded, and it will pack a 3,360mAh battery.

FlexPai 2 was powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 865, paired with LPDDR5 RAM and a UFS 3.0 storage. So this year, we may see some upgrades in terms of SoC and storage. However, there has been no word from the company regarding the official launch of the FlexPai 3, and even when it launches, the device could be exclusive to China for a while before being ready to be shipped abroad.
