Xiaomi has confirmed the launch of its new Ultra flagship smartphone later this month. The company will launch the Xiaomi 13 Ultra later this month in China. Xiaomi, at the time of the announcement, did not reveal the launch date of the phone. However, a recent leak claimed that the Xiaomi 13 Ultra launch event will be hosted on April 18. Xiaomi is expected to announce the launch date officially very soon. Meanwhile, a new report has revealed some details about the camera of the 13 Ultra.

Xiaomi might resurrect a camera feature which was seen in an old Samsung Galaxy flagship smartphone. Tipster Digital Chat Station (via) claims that the 13 Ultra will reportedly feature support for variable aperture.

A variable aperture means that the user can control the amount of light entering the sensor till the shutter is open. The feature will be useful for professional photographers. We see the feature present in DSLRs and mirrorless cameras. Samsung introduced the feature in the Galaxy S9, where the aperture switched between f/1.5 and f/2.4. A wider aperture results in more light hitting the sensor, thus letting it capture more details while avoiding noise in the darker patches of images. Of course, optimisation plays a key role here.

The Xiaomi 13 Ultra is likely to feature a 1-inch Sony IMX989 50MP main camera, which is found in the current flagship, the 13 Pro.

In addition to this, the phone is also tipped to feature a new secondary sensor, which could come with an ultra-wide lens. There will be a quad-camera setup on the back with a telephoto camera and a periscope lens. As per rumours, the phone will have four 50MP camera sensors on the back, which will have a Leica tuning.

In addition to the above details, the 13 Ultra will feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. The phone is expected to offer up to 16GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage. The device will feature LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 storage. There will be a 4900mAh battery with support for 90W fast charging and 50W wireless charging.

The device is also likely to sport a tall 6.7-inch AMOLED display. It will offer support for a 120Hz refresh rate as well. The LTPO panel should refresh between 1Hz and 120Hz. The screen will remain curved and sport a hole-punch cutout at the top centre for the front camera. We can also expect the display to offer a 2K resolution and support for HDR10+ content.

However, there is no word on whether the 13 Ultra will be launched in India. Xiaomi is expected to announce more details soon.
