OnePlus 3, 3T OxygenOS 5.0.7 Update Adds Support to Type-C Bullets Earphones, November Security Patch

The two year old OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T are now receiving a new software update. The new OxygenOS update comes exactly two months after the previous one. The latest update, OxygenOS 5.0.7, is now rolling out for the OnePlus 3 and 3T. The update brings a few improvements, bug fixes, and a newer Android security patch. OnePlus has also promised to deliver the Android 9.0 Pie update for these devices, but we are not sure when it will be available. It is possible that OnePlus could release Pie for the OnePlus 3 and 3T in the first half of 2019.

What’s New in OxygenOS 5.0.7 for OnePlus 3/3T

The latest OxygenOS 5.0.7 update for the OnePlus 3 and 3T is a minor one. It doesn’t really bring any new features as such, but it does address one issue. These phones did not support the new OnePlus Type-C Bullets earphones. Users had complained that the headphones would work only for music and couldn’t be used for making calls. That has been fixed in the latest update.

After you install OxygenOS 5.0.7 on your OnePlus 3/3T, you will be able to use the new Type-C Bullets earphones from OnePlus. The update is being delivered over-the-air, which means that it could take a while for it be available to all users. It weighs around 70MB for those who are running on OxygenOS 5.0.6. In case you haven’t received the update, do not worry, it should be available in a day or two. Meanwhile, you can also launch the Settings app and head over to System Updates to manually check for the update.

Apart from adding support for the Type-C Bullets earphones, the update also installs the latest November Android security patch. The change-log also notes that the update includes other bug fixes and improvements. That’s about everything the update brings to the OnePlus 3 and 3T. Users are still waiting for an update that will improve battery life, camera performance and fix other issues that are still bugging many.

Even the previous OxygenOS 5.0.6 stable update didn’t bring anything new to the phone. It only installed the Android security patch and included some bug fixes and performance improvements. Since the Open Beta updates have stopped for the phone, we don’t even know what OnePlus is working on.

OnePlus 3/3T Android 9 Pie

As mentioned at the beginning, OnePlus has promised to deliver the Android 9.0 Pie update for the OnePlus 3 and 3T. However, even the OnePlus 5 and 5T haven’t received the Android 9.0 Pie update. These phones did get a HydrogenOS Pie update, but that was only for the Chinese variant. The rest of the world is still waiting on an OxygenOS update based on Android 9.0 Pie. Since the OnePlus 5/5T haven’t received the update yet, it is very likely that the OnePlus 3 and 3T users will have to wait till next year. OnePlus could release Pie for the OnePlus 3/3T in February or March 2019. Again, we are not sure about this and the company could release the update earlier as well.

OnePlus is currently focusing on its latest smartphones, the OnePlus 6T and OnePlus 6. Both devices are running on Android 9.0 Pie and include improved UI and several new features. The company recently started to recruit users for the Closed Beta Program for OnePlus 6T. It is normal for a company to focus more on its latest products, so we recommend that you wait till OnePlus is ready with the Pie update for the older phones. It will eventually be released.
