OnePlus 6T Gets New Navigation Gestures, Nightscape Camera Mode Via OxygenOS 9.0.4 Update

The newly launched OnePlus 6T which has not even started retailing has already received the first update. The OxygenOS 9.0.4 update comes with the November security patch, and it will ensure that the earliest buyers of the device enjoy a seamless experience. The OnePlus 6T, which is a significant improvement over its predecessor in certain aspects, is shaping up to be one of the best Android smartphones on the market, and now you can also be certain of excellent software support.

What’s New In The OxygenOS 9.0.4 Update?

Most new devices receive a software update soon after their release to iron out the bugs that the initial users encounter, and that’s a pretty standard practice. The new OxygenOS 9.0.4 update is the same, offering general bug fixes and optimizations.

The new update brings an improved Screen Unlock, which is basically OnePlus in-display fingerprint sensor. Apart from that, the changelog says that new navigation gestures have been introduced. However, the phone already has new gestures and it is unlikely that even more gestures have been added, so this particular pointer was probably an error. In any case, navigational gestures make sense as the new phone has a massive 6.4-inch display that would be a lot easier to manage with swipe-based gestures. Moving on, standby power consumption will also be optimized with the new update, which, along with the large 3700mAh battery should easily power you through the day.

Although, the camera specifications of the OnePlus 6T are the same as that of its predecessor (16MP+20MP), the real changes are on the software side. The new Nightscape Mode, which apparently brightens up pictures in dark areas, wasn’t doing a whole lot per early reviewers. The new update has made tweaks to it, so hopefully, it will be more useful now. Apart from that, a studio lighting mode which enhances the luminosity of pictures has been added as well.

November Security Patch

Lastly, the November Android security patch is also a part of the update, which is remarkable as Google hasn’t even released them yet. Device manufacturers get patches earlier, but unless Google makes it official, we wouldn’t know which vulnerabilities have been addressed with the latest update.

The OxygenOS 9.0.4 Update weighs just 137MB, which is understandable as it is a small update with a few tweaks. The update has started rolling out now but if you want it right away, you can use the Oxygen Update application to download the latest version of OxygenOS Open Beta. The app doesn’t need root, and it will enable you to download and flash the OxygenOS 9.0.4. If you choose this route, you will need to download the 1.5GB ZIP. Moreover, if you have made any changes to the device, make sure to sure root your device after you are done. Lastly, if you are not tech-savvy, it is recommended that you wait for the update.

The Snapdragon 845-powered OnePlus 6T has up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. Novelties include the in-display fingerprint sensor and all-day battery life, but the phone is missing wireless charging and 3.5mm headphone jack. Price starts at INR 37,999 and goes up to INR 42,773. The phone has been launched in India as Amazon exclusive.
