Vivo Z1 Youth Edition With Snapdragon 626, 4GB RAM Listed For Pre-Order In China

Vivo has listed an interesting smartphone on a Chinese e-commerce website. The Vivo Z1 Youth Edition seems like a toned down version of the Vivo Z1 that launched in China recently. The Youth Edition has some cleverly applied design choices with regards to hardware. Externally the device is identical to the Vivo Z1.

Vivo is now an established smartphone brand not only in China but India as well. The company has successfully targeted Rs. 8,000 to Rs 25,000 range in an already price sensitive market. However, Vivo now has immense competition from another Chinese smartphone company. Xiaomi has been launching affordable but capable Android smartphones that sport an aggressive price. To challenge the rising dominance of Xiaomi, Vivo was reportedly planning to introduce the affordable Z Series.

True to its word, Vivo recently launched the new Z Series in China. The first smartphone of the series was the Vivo Z1. However, at CNY 1,798, the smartphone wasn’t truly affordable. Now Vivo appears to have come up with an entry-level handset that’s already listed for pre-orders. Let’s look at the specifications, features, price and availability of Vivo Z1 Youth Edition.

Vivo Z1 Youth Edition Specifications, Features

The Vivo Z1 features a 6.26-inch Full HD+ IPS LCD display with 1080 x 2280 resolution and a 19:9 aspect ratio. The Vivo smartphone has a rectangular notch at top. However, the display still manages to achieve a screen to body ratio of 90 percent.

Instead of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chipset that powers the Vivo Z1, the Youth Edition gets the Snapdragon 626 processor. Interestingly, both the processors are still clocked at 2.2GHz, and work with Adreno 506 GPU. The Vivo Z1 Youth Edition sports the same 4GB RAM, but takes a hit in the memory department, having just 32GB of internal memory instead of the 64GB onboard the Vivo Z1.

Vivo Z1 Youth Edition

Interestingly, the Vivo Z1 Youth Edition is slightly better in the camera department. It sports a dual camera setup on the back comprising of 16MP + 2MP sensors, instead of the 13MP + 2MP setup. The front-facing camera appears to have a single 16MP sensor. In addition to the rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, the Vivo Z1 Youth Edition offers a Face Unlock feature as well.

The Vivo Z1 packs a 3,260mAh battery so the Youth Edition might have the same. Incidentally, the battery doesn’t support any Fast Charging. Connectivity features on the Vivo smartphone include Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac dual-band, Bluetooth 5.0 Low Energy, GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS, and 4G VoLTE.

The Vivo Z1 Youth Edition is identical to the Vivo Z1 in terms of dimensions and weight. The smartphone measures 154.81 x 75.03 x 7.89 mm and weighs 149.3 grams. The Vivo smartphone runs on Android 8.1 Oreo with Funtouch OS 4.0 custom UI layer.

Vivo Z1 Youth Edition Price, Availability

The Vivo Z1 Youth Edition is now available for pre-order in China. The Vivo smartphone comes in a single 4GB/32GB variant, and costs CNY 1098, which translates to about Rs. 11,500 in India. The smartphone is available in three color options: Black, Blue and Purple

Vivo has not confirmed international availability of the Vivo Z1 Youth Edition. However, we expect Vivo could soon launch the affordable smartphone in India. Given the aggressive price, the Vivo handset can easily challenge the Xiaomi Note 5 Pro, Redmi 6 Pro, Realme 2, Honor 9N and other similarly priced Android smartphones.
