Honor Play 9A with 5000mAh Battery, MediaTek Helio P35 SoC Launched in China: Price, Features

Alongside the Honor 30S smartphone, Huawei’s sub-brand Honor also unveiled its budget Honor Play 9A smartphone on March 30, 2020. The Honor Play 9A is an entry-level smartphone and it comes with decent specifications like a 5,000mAh battery, a dual rear camera, and a physical fingerprint scanner. While the international availability of the Honor Play 9A has not yet been announced, the device is already available in China for pre-order. Take a look at the price, availability, specifications, and features of the newly launched Honor Play 9A and find out what it has in store for us.

Honor Play 9A: Price and Availability

As mentioned earlier, the Honor Play 9A is currently available for pre-order in China via vmall.com. The company has introduced two memory variants of the device – the 64GB variant is priced at CNY 900 (somewhere around $125) and the 128GB will cost you CNY 1,199. Both memory variants are available in three color schemes – Blue Emerald, Jasper Green, and Night Black. The international availability of the Honor Play 9A is unknown for now.

Honor Play 9A: Specifications and Features

Starting with the display of the device, the Honor Play 9A features a 6.3-inch HD+ LCD panel with a 720p+ resolution and a 20:9 aspect ratio. The Honor Play 9A features a waterdrop notch at the top of the display, which makes room for the selfie camera of the device. The selfie camera is an 8MP unit and can capture 1080 pixel videos. Moving around on the rear of the device, the Honor Play 9A features a dual camera setup, which includes a 13MP primary camera with f/1.8 aperture and a 2MP depth sensor for portrait images. The rear camera can also shoot videos with 1080 pixel resolution. Furthermore, the Honor Play 9A has a physical rear-mounted fingerprint scanner.

Under the hood, the Honor Play 9A is powered by a MediaTek Helio P35 processor (which has eight Cortex-A53 CPU cores and a PowerVR GE8320 GPU). The processor is assisted by 4GB of RAM and up to 128GB of onboard storage. If 128GB of storage does not suffice for your media consumption needs, the same can be topped up all the way up to 512GB with the help of an external SD card.

In the software department, the Honor Play 9A runs on the latest Android 10 OS out of the box with the company’s Magic UI 3.0.1 skin baked on top of it. As far as the battery of the device is concerned, the Honor Play 9A is fueled by a large 5,000mAh battery, which has provision for 10W charging. Sadly, there is no fast charging support for the Honor Play 9A. There is no USB Type-C charging port either and the Honor Play 9A relies on the dated microUSB port instead. Thankfully enough, there is at least a 3.5mm headphone jack. The Honor Play 9A features Huawei’s Histen 6.0 audio technology and promises 88dB of music.
