Xiaomi’s sub-brand Redmi recently launched the Redmi K30 Pro smartphone in China. So far, the company has not given an official word on the global launch of the device. That being said, if you recall, the vanilla Redmi K30 smartphone was launched in India with a slightly different naming convention, as it took the POCO X2 avatar when it reached the Indian soil. Now, the rumor mill has already started speculating that the Redmi K30 Pro could receive similar treatment and it might launch in India under the POCO branding. While these were all but assumptions till now, a recent finding from XDA Developers gives the theory some weightage and we might see the Redmi K30 Pro launch in India as a POCO device, most likely the POCO F2. Take a look at the report and find out what it has in store for us.
Here’s Why the Redmi K30 Pro Could Take the POCO Avatar
As per XDA Developers, the Redmi K30 has the codename “lmi’, while the Redmi K30 Pro has the codename “lmipro’, thereby hinting at some sort of resemblance, which of course makes sense. Upon further inspection, the folks were able to find out a piece of code in the MIUI 11 source code, which revealed some interesting results. The MIUI Camera app code contains a new method called Bi, which returns true if b.kb and Build.IS_INTERNATIONAL_BUILD return true. Digging further, the b.kb returns true if the model name matches either ‘lmi’ or ‘lmiin’. The latter is presumably the codename for the Redmi K30 Pro Indian variant.
Well, the story does not end there. As it turns out, the method Bi is called in another method called getCustomWatermarkDefault, where the string identified by the hexadecimal value 0x7F1000FF is also called. This hexadecimal corresponds to a constant device_poco_watermark_default_text, which contains the string “SHOT ON POCO Phone”. This suggests that the Redmi K30 Pro could very well be launched in India and could most likely be launched under POCO branding in India. We would still suggest to our readers to take this with a slight grain of salt and wait till there’s some official confirmation on this report.
