Digital payments app Paytm has launched its own Mini App Store in India. The new app store can be accessed directly via Paytm app. The launch comes at a time when Google is planning to charge 30 per cent commission for in-app purchases. The latest app store is said to be the Indian alternative to Google’s Play Store, though it is not exactly an app store. The company is hosting links to progressive web apps (PWAs), which are basically apps that can run on a web browser.

The company says Mini apps are a custom-built mobile website that gives app-like experience. For payment, the brand says developers will be able to provide different modes to the users. The list includes Paytm Wallet, Paytm Payments Bank, UPI, net-banking and Cards. Paytm will not levy any charges on payment made using Paytm wallet, Paytm Payments Bank account and UPI. However, it will levy a 2 per cent charge for other payment methods like credit cards.
The Mini App Store is here to help small developers and businesses in India. The App Store will allow developers to set up low-cost, quick-to-build mini-apps which can be built using HTML and javascript technologies.” As per Paytm, more than 300 app-based service providers have joined the programme. This includes Decathalon, Ola, Park+, Rapido, Netmeds, 1MG, Domino’s Pizza, FreshMenu, NoBroker, and more. The app store is currently available in the beta testing phase with select users in the country.
