CES 2021: AMD Ryzen 5000 Series Mobile Processors, Ryzen 5000 Series Desktop Processors, and Ryzen Threadripper PRO Announced

AMD Ryzen 5000 series of processors announced at the on-going Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2021. The company has also introduced Ryzen 5000 series of desktop processors along with top-end Ryzen Threadripper Pro during the virtual keynote. The new line of processors is based on the ‘Zen 3’ architecture, which is build using 7nm process. The Ryzen 5000 series of mobile processors strikes the right balance between energy efficiency and performance. The desktop processors also come with powerful configurations, while the Ryzen Threadripper PRO offers up to 64 cores. Let’s take a closer look at the new line of processors introduced by AMD.

AMD Ryzen 5000 series mobile processors specifications, features

The new Ryzen 5000 series H-series mobile processors claim to deliver impressive gaming experiences. The new line of processors offer up to 8 cores and 16 threads and built on the new AMD “Zen 3” architecture. The HX series of processors are meant for gamers and creators. The new AMD Ryzen 9 5980HX processor is capable of up to 23% increased single-threaded performance and up to 17% faster multi-threaded performance over the previous generation.

The AMD Ryzen 5000 U-Series mobile processors offer the perfect blend of performance and efficiency. The new AMD Ryzen 7 5800U processor comes with up 16 per cent more single-threaded performance and up to 14 per cent faster multi-threaded performance. It also offers up to 17.5 hours of general usage battery life and up to 21 hours of movie playback on a single charge. The company has also introduced the Ryzen Pro 5000 series mobile processors that are meant for enterprises. The chipsets deliver enterprise-level security features with multi-layers of defence at the silicon, OS and platform levels

AMD Ryzen 5000 series Desktop processors

AMD has also introduced a new line of desktop processors during the launch event. The new chipset comes with Zen 3 architecture and comes with a lower 65W TDP. The Ryzen 9 5900 chipset comes with 12 cores, with up to 3.0GHz base frequency (up to 4.7GHz boost), and 70MB cache. The Ryzen 9 5900 desktop processor offers an average of 24% faster 1080p gaming across select titles compared to the prior generation. The AMD Ryzen 7 5800 comes with 8 cores with 16 threads along with 3.4GHz base frequency (up to 4.6GHz boost), and 36MB cache.

AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO specifications

The company has introduced the AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO processors that will be directly available to the consumers through retailer, e-tailers and system integrators. The chipset is said to be available in March 2021. The Threadripper Pro comes with up to 64 cores, 8 channels of memory, RDIMM and LRDIMM support, 128 PCIe Gen 4 lanes, and AMD PRO security technologies. The AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 3995WX offers 64 cores and 128 threads, up to 2.7GHz base frequency (up to 4.2GHz boost), 288MB cache, and 280W TDP.
