Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) has moved to the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking an urgent intervention of Government authorities to stop its cell tower vandalism by miscreants amid the Farm Laws protest. The vandalism is not only causing damage and disruption to its RIL’s infrastructure, sales, and services but also endangering the lives of thousands of its employees, it further added. Reliance Jio further stated that the miscreants have been instigated and aided by vested interests and business rivals. The telco also explained that it has nothing to do with the Farm Laws. RIL has sought an urgent intervention of Government authorities to stop its cell tower vandalism. The Telco has filed a petition for the same at the Punjab and Haryana High Court. RIL has accused its business rivals and vested interests of instigating and aiding miscreants to vandalise its cell towers. “Taking advantage of the ongoing farmers’ agitation near the national capital, these vested interests have launched an incessant, malicious and motivated vilification campaign against Reliance, which has absolutely no basis in truth,” RIL said in a media statement.
Reliance Jio, in its petition, has also listed out facts on why it has nothing to do with the Farm Laws. The Mukesh Ambani-led telco said that Reliance Retail Limited (RRL), Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited (RJIL), or any other affiliate of RIL have not done any “corporate” or “contract” farming in the past, and have absolutely no plans to enter this business. None of RIL’s subsidiaries have purchased any agricultural land in Punjab/Haryana or anywhere else in India, for the purpose of “corporate” or “contract” farming. The company further said that it has no plans to do so.
The petition further states that RRL does not purchase any food grains directly from farmers. The RIL subsidiary has never entered into long-term procurement contracts. It has also not sought from its suppliers to buy from farmers at less than remunerative prices.
Lastly, the company said that it supports the Indian farmers’ aspiration to get a fair and profitable price for what they produce.
RIL also said that it will insist its suppliers to abide by the Minimum Support Price (MSP) mechanism and/or any other mechanism determined and implemented by the government.
