5G Launch: PM Modi Launches 5G Services in India at 6th India Mobile Congress

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched the 5th generation mobile network or 5G services in India on Saturday at the 6th India Mobile Congress being held in New Delhi. The 5G network is currently being launched in 13 cities that include Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi, Gandhinagar, Gurugram, Hyderabad, Jamnagar, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai and Pune. These will be followed by a steady rollout to other cities and towns over the next couple of years.

The PM took a tour of the different showcases of the 5G technology demonstrations held by the different telecom companies including Jio, Airtel, Vodafone Idea, Qualcomm and even startups. He tested out the Jio AR Glasses as well as how 5G can be used to remotely control a car at Qualcomm headquarters in Sweden seamlessly from the event grounds at Pragati Maidan in Delhi.

Airtel 5G services to be available in India starting today. Sunil Mittal announced that Airtel 5G will be available in 8 cities at launch. While KM Birla has confirmed that Vodafone Idea’s 5G launch “soon”.

5G Special Use Cases

The different use cases of the new fast network has been talked about and showcased at the IMC 2022. To start with agriculture is a big draw where real time data transmission will enable IoT/sensors/video/watering devices being controlled remotely. Precision monitoring of livestock, pest control, and aquaculture becomes possible.

Health sector will get a boost with real time vital parameters of patients as well a rapid access to multimedia content for reference will be revolutionary. Besides this Augmented Reality and connected classrooms in rural areas will be a big boost for the education sector. Besides these banking, logistics, and other segments.

Some of the new technologies being demos at the 6th India Mobile Congress showcase how the different companies are looking to use the 5G technology. One of those is FWA which is used for providing high speed Broadband connectivity in the rural areas.

Jio is demonstrating how its Smart AR Glasses will give people access to Metaverse, AR, VR which in turn will support smart classroom, self learning and various other areas once supported by 5G technology.
