Facebook Merges Messenger With Instagram’s Direct Messages

Facebook Merges Messenger With Instagram’s Direct Messages

Facebook is bringing the best of Messenger to the Instagram Instagram DMs photo-sharing app, which will enable users to communicate easily with each other on both platforms from 30 September.

In order to allow cross-messaging between Messenger, Instagram , and WhatsApp, Facebook has made clear its plans to unify the messaging channels of its extremely popular apps.

Facebook In a blog post, Facebook revealed the change. Without the need to download a new app, the merge makes it easier for users using only one of those channels to reach out and contact people on the other platform.

Note that messages and calls will remain in the Instagram app from Instagram to Instagram users. When they open the app, the feature will be shown to some users. If they want to do so, users can still keep their Messenger and Instagram DMs separate.

So, Messenger has replaced Instagram’s old direct messaging service, Instagram Direct, enabling users to submit conversations, images and videos for the first time between the two platforms.

A bunch of new features have also been added, including selfie stickers, Watch Together (which allows you to watch trending videos with friends) and Disappear Mode, which allows you to schedule messages to disappear automatically after a certain time. Facebook said that certain features will first hit Instagram and soon after that will appear on Messenger.

End-to – end encryption is also part of what makes it so tricky to integrate networks. Facebook engineers said in a statement this year that it would take years to make encryption the norm on Messenger, and so, by extension, all three apps will be fully integrated.

In order to keep Instagram and Facebook friends apart, there are at least a few new features: you can choose not to accept messages from people on Facebook , for example, and you can choose not to connect accounts at all. Nor does the update merge inboxes. Instagram messages will stay in the Instagram app, while messages will stay in the stand-alone Messenger app.

The standard DM icon at the top right of Instagram is replaced by the Facebook Messenger logo in order to get the Messenger on Instagram to reach the update. Instagram chats are also more vibrant than ever, with messages from the sender changing as you scroll between blue and purple. At least for now, though, it is still not possible to alert Facebook users on Instagram.
