It’s been some time since we had strong contenders of a solid mid-range phone around the 20K mark. The Mi 4 and the Mi 5 were close but since then, the 15-25K bracket has been lacking serious competition. But that is about to change, and how! Huawei has launched the Nova 3i in India, Xiaomi’s Mi A2 is just around the corner and the Nokia X6 is finally coming to India as the Nokia 6.1 Plus. So, without any further ado, let’s take a look at these phones and help you decide which one should you buy.
Mi A2 vs Nokia 6.1 Plus (X6) vs Huawei Nova 3i: Price in India
The Huawei Nova 3i is priced at Rs. 20,990 and will go on sale as an Amazon exclusive from 7th August. There are some offers which you can avail if you pre-book the device below 31st July, including a flat cashback of Rs. 1,000 and additional 2,000 off on exchange of an older device.
The Mi A2 has been priced at 250 euros (~INR 20,000) in Europe, but we expect its India pricing to be around Rs.17,000. We’ll get to know the final pricing of the device when it is officially launched in India on August 8th.
The Nokia 6.1 Plus has also been launched in other markets and its India pricing will be very close to the Rs 20,000 mark. So in terms of pricing, all three of these phones are neck-to-neck.
Mi A2 vs Nokia 6.1 Plus (X6) vs Huawei Nova 3i: Design, Display
When it comes to design, the Mi A2 features a more conventional aluminium unibody design, while the Nokia 6.1 Plus and the Nova 3i feature a premium all-glass design. The Mi A2 doesn’t feel any less premium in hand though, much like its predecessor the Mi A1.
Coming to the display on these, the Mi A2 features a 18:9 aspect ration 5.99-inch IPS display with FHD+ resolution. The Nokia 6.1 Plus also features an FHD resolution LCD screen, which measures 5.8-inch diagonally. The Nova 3i tops this area with a large 6.3-inch 1080 x 2340 IPS LCD panel. The Mi A2 is the only phone here which doesn’t have a notch, although both the Nokia 6.1 Plus and the Nova 3i look absolutely stunning with their almost non-existent bezels.
Mi A2 vs Nokia 6.1 Plus (X6) vs Huawei Nova 3i: Performance, Hardware Specifications
Coming to the hardware specifications, the Nokia 6.1 Plus run on the Snapdragon 636 processor while the Nova 3i runs on Huawei’s own Kirin 710 chipset. The Nova 3i comes in only one configuration – 4GB RAM coupled with 128GB storage. The Nokia 6.1 Plus comes in with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The Mi A2 improves on the A1 by packing in the versatile Snapdragon 660 processor with Adreno 512 GPU. It will initially launch in only one variant – 4GB RAM coupled with 64GB internal storage, however, there’s also a 6GB RAM, 128GB storage variant which could be made available later this year. Notably, the Mi A2 doesn’t have support for expandable storage, while the other two devices do. Another thing that the Mi A2 misses out on, is a 3.5mm headphone jack.
Mi A2 vs Nokia 6.1 Plus (X6) vs Huawei Nova 3i: Camera Features
The Nova 3i features dual cameras set up on both front and back. The rear setup consists of a 16 MP, f/2.2 shooter with a secondary 2MP depth-sensing camera. On the front is a primary 24MP camera again coupled with a 2MP depth sensor. Huawei has also included loads of AI features in the cameras like automatic scene detection and beauty modes.
The Nokia 6.1 Plus comes with an impressive 16 MP, f/2.0 shooter at the back with PDAF, coupled with a 5 MP, f/2.4 depth sensor. On the front, it features a 16MP shooter with AI capabilities and portrait mode support.
The Mi A2 wins this round for us, at least on paper with a primary 12 MP (f/1.8) shooter, tied to a secondary 20MP (f/1.8) depth sensor. All of these phones are capable of taking portrait mode pictures with bokeh effect. The front camera also sees a massive jump from 5MP on the Mi A1 to 20MP on the Mi A2, this time also with an LED flash, meaning you can be assured of getting great selfies in any lighting conditions.
Mi A2 vs Nokia 6.1 Plus (X6) vs Huawei Nova 3i: Battery, Operating System
All three of these phones run on Android Oreo 8.1 and while the Nova 3i is running on Huawei’s custom skin EMUI on top of it, the Nokia 6.1 Plus and the Mi A2 come with stock Android experience as they are Android One phones, which also means they’ll receive all the latest updates super fast, directly from Google.
The battery is where the A2 lags behind the competition as it features only a 3000mAh cell. The Nova 3i features a bigger 3340mAh battery, while the Nokia 6.1 Plus comes with a 3060mAh cell.
Mi A2 vs Nokia 6.1 Plus (X6) vs Huawei Nova 3i: Verdict
So that brings us to the end of this comparison. All three of these phones boast of superb features for their price points. The Nokia 6.1 Plus features a premium design, great cameras and comes with pure Android experience. The Huawei Nova 3i features loads of AI features, impressive cameras, and a huge display. The Mi A2 might not be a match for the looks of its competitors but it makes up for that with great camera performance and Android one experience. So if multimedia consumption and battery life are your primary preferences, the Nova 3i should keep you happy. If you’re not a fan of custom skins, the Nokia 6.1 Plus is the perfect mid-ranger with the reliability of Nokia brand name. That being said, for today’s comparison the winner will be the Mi A2 as it does almost everything right that is needed of a phone and will hopefully be priced right to beat the Nokia 6.1 plus and the Nova 3i.
