Popular leakster OnLeaks – in collaboration with PigTou – has revealed the renders of an upcoming Android smartphone from Samsung with a pop-up selfie camera. Going by the design language of the handset, there is a good chance that we are looking at an upcoming member of Samsung’s popular mid-range A-Series phones.
More importantly, this phone – if released – will be the first Samsung handset to integrate a ‘traditional’ pop-up mechanism for the selfie camera. Before we talk any further, take a look at the images of this new phone in the image gallery below.
OnLeaks has also posted a video in which the design elements of this handset can be clearly seen.
From the image, we can also deduce that the phone appears to sport a triple camera setup at the rear. Thanks to the pop-up camera, the phone gets a notch-less display, which will almost certainly be an AMOLED panel that should measure around 6.5-inches across. The phone, strangely, does get a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner instead of the new common in-display fingerprint scanner.
While not confirmed yet, the phone also appears to have an IR blaster at the top. Other elements on the body include the USB Type-C port, the noise-canceling microphone, and the speaker grille located at the bottom of the device.
Now, those of you well-versed with Samsung’s smartphone history might argue that the company did launch a phone with a pop-up mechanism back in 2019 in the form of the Samsung Galaxy A80. However, the pop-up mechanism on that phone was radically different from the one the company seems to be working on right now. The Samsung Galaxy A80 had a combination of a pop-up and a flip mechanism that let the phone use the same set of cameras for selfies as well as traditional photography.
As of now, there is no word as to when this handset would be officially announced in India. Chances, however, are that we could see an official announcement within the next few months. The ongoing COVID-19 induced pan-India lockdown will certainly impact the launch timeline of this handset in the country.
