Former Xiaomi sub-brand POCO has been rumoured to announce its next flagship smartphone called the POCO F2, after having released the F1 more than two years ago. It was believed that the Redmi K30 Pro, announced in China a while back, would be rebranded as the POCO F2 in India since the Redmi K30 was rebranded as the POCO X2 for India. Those rumours had previously been squashed POCO general manager C Manmohan. Now some new information has come to light about the POCO F2 which does show it to be a rebranded Redmi K30 Pro but most likely only for markets out of India.
According to a list of Google Play Certified devices, which contains all upcoming smartphones certified to use Google services, some new entries were discovered. These were all about the Redmi K30 Pro and have the model names POCO F2 Pro and Redmi K30 Pro 5G Zoom Edition. The listing has two codename variants which are ‘Imi’ and ‘Imiin’. The former is likely for international markets excluding India which means that the K30 Pro is most probably going to be launched as the POCO F2 Pro there. The ‘in’ in Imiin could signify an Indian launch which means that the Redmi K30 Pro could be announced as the Redmi K30 Pro 5G Zoom Edition in the country.
There is a lot of confusion surrounding the products of all three brands which are the Xiaomi, Redmi, and POCO. It could very well be that the POCO F2 may not see the day of light in India while Redmi, which had earlier launched the K20-series in India, may launch the Redmi K30 Pro as is and without any rebranding. In any case, many smartphone launches have been postponed in India due to the COVID-19 lockdown and it’s anyone’s guess when either POCO or Xiaomi make an announcement on a new device in the country.
