Xiaomi had earlier yesterday unveiled the next iteration of its custom skin called the MIUI 12 which will start rolling out on devices as a test build starting from April onwards while a stable build of MIUI will be pushed out from June onwards. Alongside the various new additions on Xiaomi’s proprietary skin for Android, which you can check here, the company also unveiled a redesigned camera app.
The customisations in the MIUI app had been teased by the product head of Xiaomi Camera @Queena_Xiaomi on Weibo in the form of a teaser video. Here are all the new features that Xiaomi has introduced.
- Tap to shoot, hold to record
- New in-app sounds while clicking photos
- Custom colours
- Magic Clone
- Option to edit button placements on the camera app
- Magic Kaleidoscope
- Additional 108MP mode and 50x Zoom on supported devices
As usual, these new features will first arrive on the Chinese ROM, after which users of the MIUI global ROM will receive the update. Xiaomi has not provided a timeline for when devices in markets outside of China will receive the update.
Amongst key additions to the MIUI 12 update is the inclusion of an enhanced dark mode which has been named Dark Mode 2.0. For those worried about health, Xiaomi has added a new Health App which happens to be powered by a new AI algorithm called Xiaomi MACE Micro which, other than tracking your fitness, is claimed to consume only 1 percent battery while working.
Xiaomi also claims to have cleared the “Android Enhanced Privacy Protection Test” by TÜV Rheinland. In terms of AI, Xiaomi’s Mi AI has been enabled to answer calls with a customised greeting. Promotional messages on your phone can now be grouped together to give a less cluttered feel in your inbox. Xiaomi dropped the MIUI 12 update alongside the Mi 10 Youth Edition 5G.
