LG’s upcoming Android smartphone – the design-oriented LG Velvet – is slated to be officially unveiled by the company on May 7. LG has started to issue invites for the online-only launch event scheduled for next month. As apart of this, the company posted a short, 15-second video that doubles up as an e-vite for the launch event.
Along with the video, the company also issued a detailed press release in which LG confirmed most of the features of the LG Velvet and the fact that the device will go on sale starting May 15 – just one week after the official launch on May 7.
While we already knew the key specifications of the LG Velvet, today, we have official confirmation from LG that these specs were indeed correct. In case you haven’t had a chance to read out previous articles on the LG Velvet, here’s a lowdown on the hardware specifications and other features of this phone.
The LG Velvet, as mentioned earlier in this article, is a design-oriented smartphone with priority given to the overall looks and aesthetics of the phone. Some of the ley design elements on the device include the waterdrop camera design and the design language that LG refers to as the ‘Symmetrical Ellipse.’ The phone also has design cues that the company terms as the 3D Arc design. The phone also epitomizes luxury and is made of exquisite materials that provide a premium finish to the handset.
The display used on the LG Velvet is a large 6.8-inch 20.5: 9 aspect ratio panel. At this time, we do not know if this is an AMOLED panel or an IPS LCD panel. The phone gets a stereo speaker setup that promises excellent audio quality through the loudspeakers.
The camera setup on the LG Velvet includes triple cameras at the rear. The primary rear-facing camera uses a 48MP sensor while the secondary camera is an 8MP ultra-wide-angle unit. The phone also gets a 5MP depth-sensing camera.
The phone comes powered by Qualcomm’s latest 5G chipset, the Snapdragon 765 5G, which is based on a 7nm manufacturing process. The large 4,300 mAh battery is capable of keeping the phone charged for well over a day under normal usage circumstances. We also know that the phone features support for 10W wireless charging.
