Chinese smartphone maker Meizu has officially confirmed earlier today morning that it will launch its flagship smartphones, the Meizu 16 and 16 Plus in China on August 8th. The company has published a teaser image indicating the launch through its official Weibo handle. The Weibo post also implicitly confirms that both these models will feature an in-display fingerprint sensor. These upcoming flagship devices will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset. Both the models will succeed last year’s models and their predecessors, the Meizu 15 and 15 Plus.
Meizu 16: Rumoured Features
While we do not yet know the complete features-list if the Meizu 16 series, here’s a recap of what we do know about these devices so far.
The Meizu 16 and 16 Plus have already passed China’s 3C and Russia’s EEC certifications a few days ago. This was followed by the mandatory TENAA certification in China. In fact, most of the specifications of the Meizu 16 were revealed after the device appeared on the TENAA website. Going by those details, the Meizu 16 will sport a 6.0-inch display. As far as dimensions are concerned, it will measure 150.5×73.2×7.3mm across and will run Android Oreo-based Flyme OS out of the box. As mentioned already, the device is said to be powered by the best-in-class octa-core Snapdragon 845 SoC. The Meizu 16 would most likely be offered in 4GB or 6GB of RAM options. Powering the device would be a 2950mAh battery that could feature support for fast charging. Imaging-wise the phone will feature a dual camera setup with a primary camera likely to feature a 12-megapixel Sony IMX 380 sensor.
Meizu 16 Plus: Rumoured Features
Compared to the Meizu 16, the 16 Plus will be larger in size and will feature a larger 6.5-inch display. The Meizu 16 Plus measures 150.5×73.2×7.3 mm across and will run Android Oreo out of the box. Just like its smaller sibling, the 16 Plus will be powered by the Snapdragon 845 processor. The Meizu 16 Plus will be offered in multiple RAM and storage options with the higher end model likely to come with 8 GB of RAM and 128GB storage. There could also be a less expensive version with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage. Thanks to the larger size, the Meizu 16 Plus will get a much bigger 3570 mAh battery as well. As for the camera, the Meizu 16 Plus will get a dual camera setup. The exact camera resolutions, however, are not known at this time. We can, however, expect this to be a better and more capable unit compared to the one on the smaller Meizu 16 model.
Meanwhile, bloggers in China have already started receiving invites for the event. This time, the invites seem to be rather unusual. Take a look at the images below.
If the rumoured pricing of the base model (6GB+64GB) of the Meizu 16 is to be believed, it will start at 2,399 yuan (Rs. 24,350) in China. While its higher-end option with 6GB RAM + 128GB variant might cost 2,699 yuan (Rs. 27,400). On the other hand, the Meizu 16 Plus with 6GB/8GB RAM and 64GB/128GB storage might retail for around 3,299 yuan (Rs.33,500) and 3,599 yuan (Rs. 36,500) respectively.
Note that these are rumoured specs at this point and that the final specs and details may change when the devices are officially launched a few days from now. We would, of course, cover the launch of both these devices so watch this space!
