With new features and a new logo, Microsoft has added its ultra-simple Notepad app in Microsoft Store. It’s one of Windows’ most important elements, but also one of the most enjoyed and useful. Rather than Notepad, the program is curiously called Windows Notepad.
Since 1985, the Notepad has been a part of Microsoft Windows platform and has been pre-installed on Windows computers. The software is currently available for download on systems operating on version 19541.0 or higher on Windows 10.
“Notepad has been the fast and simple text editor on Windows for over 30 years, and now it’s available in the Microsoft Store! View, edit, and search through plain text documents and source code files instantly,” states the description of the app on the Microsoft Store.
It is also important to remember that the latest Windows-Notepad app does not upgrade the system’s current notepad, but is a new app with brand different functionality.
- It lets users edit text-based files and source code instantly.
- Multiple encodings including UTF-8, UTF-16, and ANSI can now be saved via the new app
- Improved Find/replace option
- Text Zooming feature which allows user to enlarge text according to his preference
This is not the first time the Notepad app comes to Microsoft Shop. The app was released in August of last year in Microsoft Store, but was removed in December.
