Recently there have been smartphone manufacturers like Samsung, Xiaomi, and more recently Motorola, who have pushed the boundaries of camera sensor resolutions beyond the wildest imaginations. Just a year back thinking of a 108MP sensor would have been unimaginable on a smartphone, but the Mi Note 10, Galaxy S20 Ultra, and the Moto Edge Plus have proved us wrong. Now things are getting even crazier in the megapixel space as reports have come in that Xiaomi is going to announce respective smartphones with a whopping 150MP primary sensor.
Reputed tipster Ice Universe, who has been previously right on leaks regarding Samsung and Xiaomi has said that Xiaomi will launch a 150MP smartphone by the end of Q4 2020. The sensor is said to be developed already by Samsung whose 108MP camera is currently in use on the Xiaomi Mi Note 10. However, Samsung will not be the first to adopt the 150MP sensor on its smartphone.
Seeing the timeline of the launch, we can hazard a guess at which phone this sensor would most likely debut in. Xiaomi has earlier launched its CC and flagship Mix-series of smartphones at the end of the year, so it is possible either of them will have the 150MP sensor. Earlier Xiaomi had debuted the 108MP sensor on the Mi Mix Alpha and it seems likely that the 150MP sensor will be on the successor.
The 150MP sensor is said to have a footprint of 1-inch and will make use of the Nonacell technology that the S20 Ultra’s ISOCELL sensor is privy to. Vivo and Oppo are also set to make use of this sensor in their smartphones but these devices will only see the light of day next year. Ice Universe has also shed light on the development of a massive 250MP sensor. Not only that but Samsung is even planning to make a 600MP sensor which will have more detail in shots than what a human eye can perceive.
