The Indian government recently announced its plan to vaccinate against Covid-19 people above 18 years. The registrations for the same went live yesterday, and people can get vaccinated starting 1st May depending on vaccine availability in their regions. People have been trying to register themselves via CoWIN website, and Arogya Setu app. Some people stumbled upon another app with the name CoWIN Vaccinator app on the Google Play Store, and tried registering themselves for the vaccination using the CoWIN Vaccinator app. The app didn’t allow them to register for the app, and so people started calling the app a FAKE on social media platforms.
The CoWIN Vaccinator app is not FAKE!
The Co-WIN app on the Play Store is FAKE. Stop using it right away.

In the review section on Google Play Store, we found various users complaining that they entered their mobile number, but they didn’t receive OTP. A user wrote,
This app is useless. There is no option to register yourself for the first time. And then there is no way to login. OTP never comes, I have never created a password as well. Its just an app with a design and no functionality at all. Whoever approved this app must have had no idea about anything.
We also found that the app was listed by MoHFW (Ministry of Health and Family Welfare), so it has to be the official app. Later we took a look at the app description and found that the CoWIN Vaccinator app is not for vaccine beneficiaries but is for vaccine administrators. This includes Vaccinators, supervisors, and surveyors. Take a look at the app description provided on Google Play Store,
This Mobile Application is currently meant for CoWIN Facility level users to perform following tasks as Vaccinator , Supervisors and Surveyors.
This means that we shouldn’t try registering ourselves for vaccination using the CoWIN Vaccinator app, as it is made for an entirely different purpose to serve. Did you try registering yourself for the vaccination using CoWIN portal, or the Arogya Setu app? Were you able to do it successfully? Do let us know in the comments below.
