OnePlus 8: 5 Features Which are Expected to Get a Major Upgrade Over the OnePlus 7T

Yesterday, OnePlus had announced that the brand will be launching the OnePlus 8 series on 14th April 2020. The OnePlus 8 lineup is expected to have three smartphones – the OnePlus 8 Lite, OnePlus 8, and the OnePlus 8 Pro. Among these three smartphones, the OnePlus 8 is expected to be the top-seller, since it will neither lose out on flagship-grade features like the OnePlus 8 Lite nor will it be as expensive as the OnePlus 8 Pro.

However, the question that arises here is how big of an upgrade will the OnePlus 8 be over its predecessor? Well, below we have listed the five major upgrades the OnePlus 8 will have over the OnePlus 7T, for you to decide if it worth upgrading to the upcoming smartphone from OnePlus.

Punch-hole Display

The OnePlus 7T features a V-shaped notch on its display. While this V-shaped notch isn’t very intrusive, OnePlus wants to lesser the intrusion on the display by replacing the traditional notch with a smaller, punch-hole, with the OnePlus 8. While this isn’t a big deal, it is still one of the major changes you’ll see between the OnePlus 7T and its successor. The OnePlus 8 is expected to carry over the AMOLED screen technology and 90Hz refresh rate from its predecessor.

New Triple Camera Setup

The OnePlus 8, just like its predecessor, will have a triple-camera setup at rear. While the main camera at the rear in the OnePlus 8 is expected to the be the same 48MP sensor that is in the OnePlus 7T, the remaining two cameras in the OnePlus 8 are expected to be totally different compared to the ones in the OnePlus 7T. And if you are thinking that OnePlus 8 will be offering better camera sensors than the ones in its predecessor, then you might be disappointed.

According to the leaks that we have had so far, the second camera in the OnePlus 8 is expected to be an 8MP ultrawide camera instead of the 16MP ultrawide sensor that is in the OnePlus 7T. Due to the lower resolution, the ultrawide images captured by the OnePlus 8 might not be as detailed as that you get with the OnePlus 7T. What’s even worse is that OnePlus 8 is said to miss out on a telephoto camera, which, its predecessor offers. Therefore, you might not be able to take clear, zoomed images with the OnePlus 8.

Faster, Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Processor

The one thing that you can expect any new OnePlus device to offer is a faster processor than the one in its predecessor. The same is the case with the OnePlus 8. The smartphone is expected to feature the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC, which is much more powerful than the Snapdragon 855+ that is in the OnePlus 7T. Plus, the OnePlus 8 will also offer faster, LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage, as compared to its predecessor.

Larger Battery

While the OnePlus 7T was praised for its display, performance, design, and build quality, the device was criticized for its comparatively small, 3800mAh battery. The brand aims to fix this issue by offering a much larger, 4300mAh battery in the OnePlus 8. So, people who had avoided buying the OnePlus 7T for its small battery can now consider getting the OnePlus 8. The charging speed of the OnePlus 8, unfortunately, is expected to be the same as that of the OnePlus 7T – 30 watts.

5G Connectivity

OnePlus has always been in the frontline when it comes to offering the latest connectivity options in the market in its smartphones. And the OnePlus 8 will not be any different. Various reports suggest that the OnePlus 8 will come with 5G connectivity, a huge leap from the 4G support in the OnePlus 7T. While this feature isn’t of any use in markets like Indian where there is no 5G network on offer, it will be a boon in markets like the US where multiple telecom companies are offering 5G connectivity. With 5G onboard, the video buffering and file download times will be reduced significantly.

Do you think these five features are worthy enough to lure people to upgrade from the OnePlus 7T to the OnePlus 8? Also, which smartphone do you think will be the closest competitor to the OnePlus 8? Do let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
