It was just two days ago that we reported about Airtel and BSNL Mobile announcing an extension in the validity period of their prepaid subscribers. This extension was valid only for recharges that expired or are due to expire during the ongoing pan-India lockdown period. With people mostly from the rural areas of the country unable to venture out and recharge their numbers, this move was welcomed by industry analysts as well.
With almost all telecom operators announcing one benefit after another, Vodafone Idea was the only major player left, which did not announce anything of significance during the lockdown period. That was until now because the company recently announced the rollout of a validity extension plan for its rapid subscribers.
According to a report by Economics Times Telecom, Vodafone Idea Limited has announced that it will extend the validity of its prepaid plans till April 17, 2020. This extension, according to the company, will be applicable for users of basic feature phones and is expected to impact more than 100 million subscribers across the country positively. Apart from the aforementioned validity extension, these users will also receive Rs 10 worth of talk time for free so that they will be able to continue making and receiving calls during the entire duration of the lockdown period.
Announcing the launch of these plans Vodafone Idea issues a statement that read
“This free of cost extension in plan validity timeline will enable millions of feature phone users of both Vodafone and Idea to continue to receive incoming calls, even if the validity of their plan expires earlier. Our customers must remain connected without worrying about any disruption, especially in these troubled times. Extending plan validity and crediting talk time will particularly benefit migrant workers and daily wage earners, whose lives and livelihoods have been most unsettled due to the precautionary lockdown. Our network teams are already operating 24X7 to ensure seamless connectivity.”
Vodafone Idea says that it will take a while for all the eligible 100 million users to receive these benefits and that it is working to ensure the rollout is complete without too much delay.
