Over 800,000 Youtube Videos Are Coming To The Oculus Go VR Headset

Oculus Go, the all-in-one VR headset launched in May 2018, has already proven to be a hit, with over 80 percent of its owners claiming that they didn’t own a Rift or Gear VR before. Hulu, Netflix, and Pluto TV are already a part of the Oculus ecosystem and now the company has announced that it’s adding Youtube VR to Oculus Go.

More Ways To Enjoy VR

This heralds the arrival of the official YouTube VR app that will be compatible with all Oculus mobile headsets. Oculus plans to bring nearly 800,000 VR videos on a myriad of topics to Youtube, providing a more immersive experience whether you are watching a documentary or a 360° event.

Starting at a price in India of Rs. 14,444, Oculus Go is not the cheapest option around. Alternatives include Google’s Daydream View and Samsung Gear VR, which start at Rs. 5,732 and Rs. 5,078 respectively. Youtube had already expanded its VR app to Samsung’s Gear VR device over the summer, marking the platform’s entry to the Oculus Store. Going cross-platform would also mean that Google will lose what was once a major selling point for its own Daydream mobile VR platform.

The news was announced by Oculus during its developer conference, along with other things such as sharing VR experience with people outside of the headset. Even though no specifics were announced, we can expect the Oculus Go to support casting as soon as next month. This will let your friends be a part of your experience via their smartphones or TV. Users can also look forward to new events on the live Oculus Venues app, including NBA pro basketball games.

Oculus Rift Core 2.0 To End Windows 7, 8.1 Active Support: Windows 10 To Become Base OS For VR Platform

It is interesting to see that Oculus, which is owned by Facebook, is addressing the issue of the lack of quality VR content available that can persuade people to adopt the up and coming computing format which is still unfamiliar.

The company also unveiled its new Oculus Quests, that will retail for Rs. 28,953 and it will be interesting to see how Oculus keeps the relatively humble offering relevant after the debut of the more luxe headset.
