Earlier this week, HMD Global announced the pricing and availability details for its newest budget Android smartphone for the Indian market, the Nokia 5.1 Plus. The Nokia smartphone does with a 5.86-inch screen and a 3060mAh battery will compete against the likes of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5, Redmi Y2, Redmi 6 Pro, Honor 9N, and the ASUS ZenFone Max Pro M1. While it may not be a best-in-class device in terms of hardware specs, the Nokia 5.1 Plus does offer a few unique features that make it a good buy in the budget segment. Read on to find out more.
Nokia 5.1 Plus: 3 Unique Features
All-Glass Body: The Nokia 5.1 Plus is one of the few budget Android smartphones to come with an all-glass design. It features 2.5D curved glass on both sides, while in the middle is a polycarbonate frame for durability. Thanks to the high-gloss finish, the Nokia 5.1 Plus looks and feels great in the hand. It also has curved edges and CNC-machined metal camera bezels.
Android One: Just like other recent Nokia-branded smartphones, the Nokia 5.1 Plus is part of the Android One program. This means you can expect the smartphone to receive regular monthly security updates for up to 3 years as well as two major OS upgrades. Most of its competition will only receive one major OS upgrade, so the Nokia 5.1 Plus certainly has an edge over its rivals in the software department. It also offers a stock Android experience with no bloatware whatsoever.
USB Type-C Port: Another unique feature that the Nokia 5.1 Plus offers is a USB Type-C port. While modern Android flagship smartphones all come with a USB Type-C port, it is not commonly found on budget Android smartphones. Most budget Android smartphones priced in India below Rs.15,000 in India all feature a regular microUSB 2.0 port. However, it should be noted that the Nokia 5.1 Plus supports the USB 2.0 and not the newer USB 3.1 standard.
