Realme C1: Hands-on, First Impressions

When I travelled to Delhi for the Realme 2 Pro launch event, I did not really anticipate covering TWO product launches. That, however, is exactly what happened after Realme launched a brand new entry-level device moments after the Realme 2 Pro was officially announced. This new device, as you probably are aware, is the Realme C1. We did cover the launch of the C1 in another article. In this one, let us take a closer look at the device. I was able to play around with the Realme C1 at the launch event for a few minutes to give you my first impressions of this brand new phone

Realme C1: Design, Build

Like its siblings from the rest of the Realme lineup, the Realme C1 also gets a premium design. The phone gets the same ‘polished’ rear panel like the one we saw on the Realme 2 Pro. Like the Pro, this one also lacks the chiselled design we saw on the Realme 2. The Realme C1 is arguably one of the best-looking handset in the sub 7k price bracket in India thanks to the fibreglass body. The phone feels great in the palms and feels slightly compact when compared to the Realme 2 Pro even though both the handsets are roughly similar in size.

Realme C1: Specifications, hardware

Let us first talk about the display on the device. The Realme C1 gets a 6.2-inch HD+ IPS LCD display. Unlike the dewdrop display we saw on the Realme 2 Pro, the C2 gets a ‘normal’ notch at the top. As you might have noticed, the resolution of the panel is also much lower compared to the Realme 2 Pro. Powering the handset is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 SoC which is great for the price the handset is (at least initially) being offered. The phone gets 2GB of RAM and gets by with 16GB of internal storage. The handset also gets a dedicated microSD card slot for additional memory. This means you will be able to use two SIM cards and one microSD card on the phone at the same time. The Realme C1 gets a large 4230 mAh battery. I am sure the phone will easily last an entire day with relative ease.

Realme C1: Camera and Imaging

The Realme C1 gets a dual camera set up at the rear that includes a 13-megapixel primary camera mated to a 2-megapixel depth sensor. Apart from these two cameras, the phone also gets a 5-megapixel front-facing camera for selfies and video calls. Like its more expensive siblings, the Realme C1 also supports a bunch of AI modes within the camera app. I did not, however, test these features during my time with the device. As far as video recording goes, the handset is capable of recording and playing back 1080p videos. Realme C1: Should you buy this phone?

By the looks of it, the Realme C1 is one of best handsets that you can currently buy for less than Rs.7,000 in India. The SD450 processor is quite powerful and the GPU should be able to handle small games without breaking a sweat. The low 2GB of RAM might be of concern. However, you cannot ask for more at this price range. I did wish the company had also launched a 3GB version with a slightly higher price tag. Anyway, the Realme C1 will go on sale starting October 11 on Flipkart. Note that the price of Rs.6,999 is an introductory offer and is valid only for a short time after the launch of the device.
