Microsoft’s SwiftKey Now Offers Two-Way, Real-Time Translation For Android Users

SwiftKey, the intelligent, Microsoft-owned keyboard that enables you to type faster by adapting itself to your writing style just got a whole lot better. Now, you will no longer have to worry about hopping across different apps to communicate with your multicultural friends, as the app will do the heavy loading for you.

SwiftKey now lets you translate both incoming and outgoing messages in real-time, and no prize for guessing that the feature is powered by Microsoft Translator. All you have to do to os to use the newly-baked feature and update your SwiftKey app, although, you can install the Microsoft Translator too if you want to use this feature offline. Even though the jury is still out on whether machine translation can achieve human parity, the new feature will save you the additional step of getting off Facebook Messenger, Whatsapp, or whatever platform you are using to decrypt messages.

For now, this feature is only available to Android users and the company hasn’t revealed if and when it will arrive on iOS. As for Android users, they can translate their messages into over 60 languages including Spanish, Italian, German, Russian and Turkish. The translation feature is the latest to be added in the newly launched Toolbar that offers customisation options such as GIFs, emojis, and stickers. Just tap the plus sign that you see on the upper left corner of the keyboard to access the toolbar.

SwiftKey Brings Microsoft Translator to Android for Greater Ease in Bridging Language Barrier

SwiftKey is not the first app to offer this features, as it has been there on Google’s Gboard since quite some time now. Similarly, this is not a first for a Microsoft-owned software either as real-time textual translation is already available on Windows and for Skype users. However, integrating the Microsoft Translator into SwiftKey will surely make mobile-based communication a lot easier. Moreover, as mobile users see their messages translated in real time, they may learn a few ropes as they go along.
