Xiaomi Redmi 6, Redmi 6A Now Receiving MIUI 10 Stable Global ROM Update: How to Download and Install

After a whole host of Xiaomi devices were given the highly popular MIUI 10 Stable Global ROM update, it is now the turn of the popular and new budget smartphones Redmi 6A and Redmi 6 to receive the software. The official MIUI Announcements account at Mi forum has confirmed that the Stable version of the MIUI Global ROM has started rolling out over-the-air (OTA) for Redmi 6A and Redmi 6 that is 1.2 GB replacing MIUI 9.

The build number for the ROM for Redmi 6A is V10.0.2.0.OCBMIFH and that for Redmi 6 is V10.0.1.0.OCGMIFH. The update brings along a new full-screen UI, full-screen gestures, redesigned notification panel, updated system apps, and a natural sound system.

You can check the availability of MIUI 10 Global Stable update on your Redmi 6 or Redmi 6A by going to Settings > About phone > System updates > Check for updates. Alternatively, you can flash the latest MIUI 10 update through a Recovery ROM or fastboot ROM. Both are available for download via Xiaomi’s servers. In this post, you can see how you can download and install the MIUI 10 Global Stable ROM for the Redmi 6A and the Redmi 6 if you do not want to wait for the OTA update to reach your phone.

You can find the download links for the MIUI 10 ROM at the Mi forum, but you can also download them from this article. Click here for the Recovery ROM for Redmi 6 and here for the Recovery ROM for the Redmi 6A. Download these ROMs from a computer and connect your Redmi device to the system. Remember, you need to keep your phone’s battery nearly full as the downloading and installing of a new ROM can consume a lot of battery power. Also, back up all data before you begin the process.

Once set, you will need to change the name of the Recovery ROM file to ‘update.zip’ and copy the file, and paste it in the root directory of the storage of your Redmi 6 or Redmi 6A. Avoid storing the file in any specific folder. Then, go to Recovery mode by pressing the Volume Up and Power button together when the phone is switched off.

Use the volume buttons to navigate and power button to select options from the list that appears on your screen, and select the option to install the update.zip file. Once the updating is completed, choose the option to reboot (to system one) and let the phone boot the new ROM. If this sounds complicated, you can also use the MIUI Updater app to install the Recovery ROM.

Alternative Method For Installing Recovery ROM

Download, install and sign up on the MIUI Updater app, then follow the same procedure of downloading the Recovery ROM as mentioned above. You will need to download the file in your personal computer, transfer it to the Redmi 6 or Redmi 6A device, and then go to the MIUI Updater app. In the app, you will find a menu on the top right side, where you can find the option ‘Choose Update Package’. Select this option and then select the Recovery ROM file.

Let the app begin and go through the whole process of the download and installation, and then select Reboot. The rebooted Redmi device will run the MIUI 10 Global Stable ROM. For those who prefer the Fastboot method, we have detailed the procedure below.
