Xiaomi Mi A2, Nokia 6.1 Plus: How Does These Phones Fare Against the Latest Realme 2 Pro?

Competitiveness among smartphone brands has got a lot more intense than we would have expected it to be. There are budget phones, mid-range devices and some premium, flagship models floating around in our markets. Off the three, the mid-range device stands out for having the maximum appeal towards consumers, considering factors such as price point, specifications and other features it offers at a considerably lesser price. Those factors sometimes pit against a possible flagship model. The mid-range smartphone category is the market king over the other sections.

In India, there are many options for a mid-range smartphone to choose from, especially if the price point is a parameter. Consider Rs 20,000 as the maximum, and you have so many real options in front. So, here we are comparing three of the top mid-range smartphone models available here, the RealMe 2 Pro, Nokia 6.1 Plus and Xiaomi Mi A2 using some of the parameters, we shall see which of these smartphones offers the best to a consumer for its price.

Design

Tall aspect rations and big screens are the nous of any midrange smartphone today, while the RealMe 2 Pro, Nokia 6.1 Plus and Xiaomi Mi A2 (review) all possess that factor. The Xiaomi Mi A2, however, has a different design considering we are in the era of notches. The Xiaomismartphone does not have a notch, but rather a more traditional 18:9 6-inch IPS LCD screen. The Nokia 6.1 Plus o the other hand, has a slightly smaller screen at 5.8-inch 19:9 IPS LCD screen that comes with a notch. The RealMe 2 Pro, however, offers the biggest screen among the three with a 6.3-inch IPS LCD screen with a 19:9 aspect ratio that comes with a waterdrop notch.

The Xiaomi Mi A2, in term of its build again is very traditional with a metal unibody construction. The Nokia 6.1 Plus (review) sticks with modern day standards and combines glass at the back along with a metal frame. The RealMe 2 Pro, however, has an all-plastic body, that with a gloss is made to resemble glass. Not so premium feeling when holding the RealMe 2 Pro as compared to the others.

Price, Storage, Battery

The Xiaomi Mi A2 is priced at Rs. 16,999 and powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chipset, although the smartphone comes in only a single variant of 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage. The Mi A2 also includes a 3000mAh battery which could be considered low as per today’s standards, however, to make up for the lack of power, Xiaomi has added Qualcomm Quick Charge 4.0 support to the smartphone.

The Nokia 6.1 is available for Rs. 15,999, and is also available in a single variant of 4GB ‘RAM and 64GB internal storage. However, the Nokia 6.1 Plus is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processor and boasts a rather 3060mAh battery.

On to the RealMe 2 Pro, the smartphone comes with variant options of 4GB+64GB, priced at Rs. 13,990, the 6GB+64GB which is available for Rs. 15,990 and an 8GB+ 128GB model which could be purchased for Rs. 17,990. The RealMe 2 Pro also represents the most affordable 8GB RAM device in today’s market. The RealMe 2 Prio is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor and comes with a 3500mAh battery inside, with no fast charging capabilities on the smartphone.

Software

All three of Xiaomi Mi A2, the Nokia 6.1 Plus and RealMe 2 Pro run on Android 8.1 Oreo. The Xiaomi Mi A2 and Nokia 6.1 Plus are both Android One devices, meaning they run stock Android in them, which gives them an advantage over RealMe 2 Pro which runs the rather heavy ColorOS skin on top.

Camera

The camera part is where at times users might be able to decide on the phone. Cameras have become an essential part of any mid-range smartphone today, with more brands offering different styles and combination for cameras these days.

The Xiaomi Mi A2 sports a massive 12MP Primary camera alongside a 20MP secondary camera setup at the back of the phone. The configuration allows the Mi A2 both depth-effect shots and up to 2X lossless zoom. That coupled with a 20MP front selfie shooter makes the Mi A2 an irresistible phone for its price and the camera it offers.

The Nokia y6.11 Plus, on the other hand, has a dual camera set up at the back with a 16MP primary lens supported by a 5MP secondary one. The Nokia device boasts a 16MP front selfie camera, and overall packs a right shift concerning the lenses offered.

The RealMe 2 Pro, like the other two, has a dual camera setup, which packs a 16MP + 2MP at the rear and a 16MP lens on the front. Its cameras come with bokeh effect n portrait shots, and the same could be achieved with the selfie snapper using a software.

Conclusion

Considering specifications, battery and software all three smartphones are evenly matched, The RealMe 2 Pro, however, offers more RAM and memory options as well as the most affordable 8GB smartphone currently found in the market. That said, there are other factors where the RealMe 2 Pro lags behind the others, especially the Xiaomi Mi A2. Camera, Processor and overall build quality wise the Xiaomi Mi A2 is the leader among the three, as the Nokia 6.1 Plus seemingly comes second in almost all aspects of the smartphones. That said, if you are looking at more RAM power but could compromise on the camera side, then the RealMe 2 Pro is a fantastic option, although the design, looks and overall build are less than satisfactory. The Xiaomi Mi A2, however, packs in brilliant camera setup and solid build, so if you are looking at this smartphone, the compromising on the RAM for a fantastic camera and a powerful processor is on the cards.
