POCO F1 Issues and Fixes: OK Google, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Connectivity, Battery Drain and More

Xiaomi created their POCO sub-brand to differentiate between their smartphone offerings. The POCO F1, the flagship device of this brand surprised everyone by their offerings for its price tag. Xiaomi’s POCO brand is more inclined towards offering a performance smartphone than anything, and the specifications in the POCO F1 makes it a unique smartphone in itself.

The presence of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 is a clear indicator of what Xiaomi meant by a performance phone. In addition to that, the POCO F1 has a fantastic camera setup, excellent display and features including an IR Face scanner, Fingerprint scanner, good battery life and overall impressive performance, considering the price of the POCO F1.

Even with the design, as some might feel a polycarbonate body might not resonate to that of a flagship smartphone, it still is sturdy and not as fragile as some other glass-based designs on smartphones today.

However, like in most devices, there are plenty of bugs and problems that exist on the POCO F1 too. Despite the impressive specification of the POCO F1, these problems exist, and here we understand them along with possible solutions to fix them.

DisclaimerThese issues might be subjective, and MySmartPrice is only highlighting using other sources for information.

Issues with Multi-touch on POCO F1

The first of the problems come with the Ghost touch/multi-touch. USers have been reportedly experiencing touch issues when the multi-touch tester app is put to use on the POCO F1. There is an extra touch input registered while tapping the screen and causing trouble for users to use the multi-touch function. However, Xiaomi has addressed this issue, suggesting it could be an issue with the tester app itself. Here are some possible solutions to fix the problem on the POCO F1.

1. Settings > Additional Settings > Button and Gesture Shortcuts > Take a Screenshot – here set the option to ‘None’ and reboot the device.

2. Uninstall the Multi-touch tester app if its already installed, and then try noticing the issue with multi-touch.

The absence of a few Icon Apps on the Notification Panel

Another major issue with the POCO F1 that Xiaomi has addressed. In this, some users have noticed the absence of some app icons on the notifications panel. The problem, however, has been acknowledged by Xiaomi, and the brand has released a fix with the Global Beta ROM 8.9.13.

For users who are not on the Global Beta ROM, the fix for the problem is coming soon to the Stable ROM. However, as of now, there is no instant fix for the problem, and the solution could be the Global Beta ROM 8.9.13 or users have to wait until Xiaomi release the Stable ROM along with the fix for the problem.

Bluetooth device connectivity issue

One of the common problems in many smartphone devices today, POCO F1 users have complained about some Bluetooth devices not getting connected to the smartphone. Users have reported that they can connect to a device only after multiple tries to pair with the POCO F1. There are some possible solutions to this problem listed below –

– The most straightforward answer, which at times works, is to reboot the device. After the restart, try and pair the desired Bluetooth device.

– If the problem persists, then open Bluetooth Settings and remove all existing paired devices. After that, try pairing the current device facing the connectivity issue to the POCO F1 smartphone.

– If the first two steps don’t work, then head to Settings > Applications > Top 3 dots on the top right and tap on Show System Apps > Bluetooth > Storage > Clear Cache and Data.

The problem with Bluetooth connectivity for devices should get fixed using the above solutions.

Unstable Wi-Fi connectivity/No connection

Some POCO F1 users are finding it troublesome to connect their device to their Wi-Fi network or facing slower than usual, unstable Wi-Fi connectivity. The first possible solution could be to try to fix the connectivity issue through completely re-connecting to the Wi-Fi network –

Settings > Connections > Wi-Fi – and push the “Forget” button with the desired network name. Now re-connect to the same Wi-Fi network, and hopefully, this should solve the instability problem.

Check if the issue is with the Wi-Fi router. The problem could be solved by a simple unplug-replug technique, keeping a gap of 10 seconds between switching off and turning on again.

“OK Google” command issue

When users try to use the “OK Google” Command they usually do so experiencing plenty of issues. Xiaomi has addressed this issue and released the fix along with the Global Beta ROM 8.9.13. However, for users who are not on the Global Beta ROM need to wait until the release of the Stable ROM with the fix for the “OK Google” command issue.

Issues with PUBG Gameplay and Sound output

Many users who use their POCO F1 smartphone to play the PUBG game, have reported that parts of the game are hidden behind the notch, effectively ruining their gameplay. Xiaomi has acknowledged this problem and has relayed the information to PUBG Mobile developers who are working on a fix to this issue. USers need to wait for an update from the game developers as they could roll out an update to fix the problem in the coming times.

There is a second problem reported by users playing PUBG. Here users are experiencing low sound output or distorted sound output while playing the game on the POCO F1.

Again, the Global Beta ROM 8.9.13 is where Xiaomi has released a fix on, and the update could be soon available with the release of a stable ROM.

Mobile Data Connectivity issue on POCO F1

There have been instances where users are facing issues with connecting to their Mobile Date on the POCO F1. Here are some solutions to solve the problem and use mobile data on the POCO F1.

– Reset the APN to enable mobile network again by heading to Settings > Mobile Network > Access Point Name and entering APN settings.

– Additionally turn on the Airplane mode and leave it on for 15 Seconds then, turn it off and wait a few seconds. This method should fix the issues, and mobile data should work again.

– if the problem persists while you are travelling and the SIM is on roaming then go to Settings > Sim Card & Mobile Network > Enable Data Roaming

POCO F1 battery drain issue

Many users have complained of a battery drain issue with the POCO F1. The battery drainage could be due to some software bugs and users can be assured that it’s not a hardware defect.

– A soft reset process, by holding the Power and Volume Down button simultaneously till the screen goes off. The action will reboot the POCO F1 device automatically, and after which its recommended to check if the battery drain issue persists.

– In the locations settings, disable high accuracy feature and change the function to Low Accuracy, at least till you use another app that requires to know your location.

– Additionally, users can try uninstalling some of the apps that tend to drain your POCO F1 devices’ battery even faster. These apps usually have constant running in the background to keep updated on new posts. You could also disable these apps the background rather than uninstalling them. The best way to know which apps are draining out the battery continually, by checking on the battery usage of apps in Battery Settings on the menu.

Other issues that need a fix on POCO F1

– The POCO F1 is unable to stream Netflix/Amazon Prime HD videos due to no support for Widevine L1.
