Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer Edition Gets Face Payment Support Using Unique 3D Face ID Technology

The Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer Edition is one of the most impressive flagship offerings from the Chinese smartphone maker. The smartphone was released in May and it was the first Android smartphone in China to support 3D face unlocking. The suit was followed by Oppo Find X, but the device is only limited to the 3D face unlocking technology only. The Mi 8 Explorer Edition is similar to the standard Mi 8 in most areas but the device comes with some additional features that make it stand out. The Mi 8 Explorer Edition features a large 6.21-inch AMOLED display with 1080 x 2248 Full HD+ resolution and an aspect ratio of 18.7:9. The smartphone also gets DCI-P3 color space coverage, HDR10 support, and Corning Gorilla Glass protection.

The Mi 8 Explorer Edition comes with an in-display fingerprint sensor, a feature missing in the standard variant. Under the hood, the device is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 10nm processor clocked at 2.8 GHz, paired with an Adreno 630 GPU. For storing apps and data, the Mi 8 Explorer edition offers a single configuration with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage. Unfortunately, you can not expand the memory further as the device does not come with a slot for a microSD card.

In the imaging department, the smartphone features a 12MP + 12MP AI-powered dual-camera setup with Dual Pixel PDAF and 2x optical zoom. The primary sensor on the Mi 8 Explorer edition is a Sony IMX363 that boasts 1.4um pixel size, a f/1.8 aperture along with 4-axis optical image stabilization. The Mi 8 Explorer Edition is fuelled by a 3000mAh capacity battery that comes with Qualcomm Quick Charge 4.0+ support. You can expect your device to last for 4 to 5 hours over 15 minutes of charging. In terms of dimensions, the Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer Edition measures 154.9 x 74.8 x 7.6mm and weighs in at 177 grams. As for software, the flagship device ships with Android 8.1 Oreo-based MIUI 10.

Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer Edition: Expected Price in India

In China, the device is priced at 3699 yuan, which is roughly Rs. 39,000. Xiaomi is expected to launch the standard variant of the Mi 8 in India by the end of the year. However, there is no information on the  Explorer edition launching anytime soon. However, Xiaomi could launch this edition of the smartphone to take on the likes of flagships from Oppo and Vivo. The Mi 8 is expected to be priced somewhere around Rs.35,000 in India, so we are hoping the Mi 8 Explorer Edition to go as high as Rs.40,000, whenever it arrives.
